Rear Axle Swap

Hi all, finally getting to do some more work on the truck this winter. I've looked around here but can't come up with the answer I'm looking for.

I've got a 3:73 posi rear axle out of a mid 80's chev truck that I'd like to throw into the '72. My '72 has coils, so the trailing arm perches should be easy to re-locate on the 3:73 axle. I'm having trouble figuring out what to do with the panhard or track bar. I'm not planning on lowering the truck, just going with the original stance. The guys at ECE tell me that their super track bar won't work for stock height. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? I'm thinking I'll probably have to re-locate the panhard/track bar mounts to the 3:73 axle as well.

I'm not sure how that will work considering the 72 and prior axles have the panhard mounting bung cast in to the housing. You can use a universal mount like this one from Ride Tech Suspensions.

Porterbuild make a nice set up all bolt in the panhard bar bolts to the trailing arms no need to weld or cut the diff. Also the have a set up for the shocks ass well no need to relocat them I just bought there. kit and nothing mounts to the diff cut off all brackets and smoothed out my diff looks sweet. Thanks, I should have looked at the axle a little closer first, I see now what you mean. Looks like this is the part to go with. Hoping to get at it pretty soon, can't wait to try it out with the 3:73.

I don't know why you couldn't use the super track bar from ECE on a a stock height truck. It's adjustable for length.

Tx, I thought that was a little odd as well. I sent them an email yesterday but the person who replied didn't think it would work with stock height, though now that I re-read his email, it sounds like he's not too sure. I think I'll give their tech dept a call and see if I can figure out why.

no pics yet but the site has a complete set up pick section by section.. more details then my pics would have.. im sure he will also part out a kit he did it for me i purchesed the stage 2 economy kit without the c-notch and bags.. saves some good$$$$$$

Thanks for the links guys. ECE wrote me back and were a little more specifc as to why their bar won't work. They said the bar would be too short to reach the bracket at stock height. The decline angle of the bar would also be too drastic, causing complications with the rear end geometery.

It's supposed to warm up here a bit in the next few days, I'll have to shovel the ol girl out and take some measurements. I'm alot further along than I was a few days ago though.
