Re: 76 Blazer build
a little slow, I had it out a couple months ago to do the shackle flip in the rear. It will probably be sitting for the next few months, at least until the snow melts. Glimmer, I saw that 74 body that you got, nice score!

Re: 76 Blazer build
thanks, the blazers only saving grace was that the frame was in good shape, if it hadnt been it would have been parted out. Also because it was a 4 speed.

Re: 76 Blazer build
I modified the shortbox frame to accept the 30 gallon blazer tank that I had laying around. I moved the last crossmember back about 5 inches and made a new front crossmember that would keep the tank from trying to move up.
I also got a little more done on the 70 cab. The drivers side is done and I repaired someone else's gas hole repair.

Re: 76 Blazer build
The shortbox is finally starting to come together! I made seat tracks to mount a 93 split bench and finally threw the wheels on it. Its running good and I have driven it around the yard a little.

Re: 76 Blazer build
Put the box on this morning before the heat got too bad. I think that it sits a little higher in the front than in the back, so I may have to either drop the front down a little or raise the back. Not sure yet

Tore down the front axle today and replaced every seal in it. Also installed my new center link and tie rods.

Re: 76 Blazer build
Nice projects, I wish I had more garage space and money... ohh and time too! I saw a 1976 Blazer that came from the factory with a 350, 4 speed, air conditioning and everything else a Silverado package could have came with fully loaded for the year for sale by me about 5 years ago. I was tight on money and could only afford to spend $500 and the owner didn't bite. He said he just had a few hundred dollars put into the tune-up and new tires. He ended up not being able to sell it and donated it to the Fire Dept. to be cut up for practice. It was hard being in the department when they cut that truck up. I wouldn't do it. Just couldn't.

Re: 76 Blazer build
That sucks to hear, the blazer had actually been sold 4 times before I bought it, but no one had ever come back with the money! The guy was really surprised when I came back with the wife and cash.

Re: 76 Blazer build
Thanks, But you should give it a shot. Its intimidating at first, but breaking up a big project into smaller ones has worked so far for me.

Re: 76 Blazer build
Here are your hitch pics 75GMC454, I believe this to be the original one to my blazer. Not sure about the reflectors though
6260683 is stamped into both arms of the hitch

Re: 76 Blazer build
Thanks for the pics. Your blazer looks great.
I think you are right on the difference between the trucks and the blazers and suburbans. |

Re: 76 Blazer build
I know this thread has been idle a while, but awesome work on all the rigs! It's very inspiring to see someone jump right into some serious body work like you have. I especially like the blazer tank swap into the SWB truck. That is on my list of things to do. Whenever you finish up the fuel filler door snap a couple pics of it please. Thanks and keep up the good work.
