Chopped crossmember and a/c in a 67/72?
So I am in the process of doing my disk swap in the front of my 70. I got a pancaked crossmember that I want to run, but I also dont want to go swapping to a different a/c setup just yet....Im currious if I can get away with it or if I should leave well enough alone for now?...
I got a 255/55 18 tire on the front and am going to be running a 2.5 drop spindle and it has cupped lowers for it as well...not aginst running stockers again.. Thanks for and advice Jeff |

I think your "firewall side" A/C box will cause you issues with the pancaked crossmember.
I'm not sure of the tire height of your 18's,... but I would try to stay with a 27" tall front tire and your stock crossmember.

Re: Chopped crossmember and a/c in a 67/72?
Here's a good thread.
This is a SWEET Dropmember equipped truck with factory A/C, owned by member 5windowpickup. I belive he did get rid of the factory A/C box,... when he went to billet wheels, to get it to lay out. It's a good read! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=365912

If i have done my research wright then there should be no problems with a pancaked crossmember,
If you take a 2" section out then the engine mounts will be in the same place, |

Contact forum member Capt Kaos. He used to sell the chopped crossmembers and has the straight scoop on what will work. I think Keith is correct that 1.5 is the limit.

Re: Chopped crossmember and a/c in a 67/72?
Thanks for the responses guys, Ive done a fair amount of searching on this seems like 1.5 inches is the limit, and even that is hit or miss so to speak. Think I will just throw it back together with out it and see where it ends up.
Thanks Jeff |
