Doing 100% replacement on all wiring on my 65 shortwide, any suggestions on who to use, I am also going back with custom gauge set and under dash AC, here is a couple pics of install of some floors and rockers from LMC

I would only go with American Auto Wire. I have put 2 in my truck and wish I would have just gotten the AAW harness. it comes with new ign switch, dimmer switch and alot more, has allowances for power windows, aftermakerket guages, AC, and all that, and it comes with the proper firewall connections. Just My opinion.

I have used Painless Wiring on (2) vehicles. Their kits are great and their tech. support is also great. They are pricey though.

Ron Francis makes a real nice wire harness. We installed one of his in dad's 57 pickup and it was super easy to hook everything up.

I'm of no help in the wiring department...but I do have a question about your repairs.

Did you lap joint them?

How's the fit of that outer replacement panel from LMC?

Did you not need to re-enforce the cab before you did your repair?

Looks like he overlapped the panels and plug welded it in, If you do it this way be sure to seal both sides with seal sealer to avoid trapping water in the future, I did not brace my cab ...but I measured everything before cutting and before welding, the only thing that changed was the roof started to sag in the front where I removed the lower door pillar, I used a porta power to jack it back in shape before welding, test fit the door before final welding

Fit was good on both, I just used jack stands for support doing both sides plus adding some AC vents (4) will send you pics when I get it all done

Spend the extra money and get the painless kit that is specifically for the 60-66 trucks, awesome photo instructions and amazing customer tech support. You won't be disappointed.

I bought a Rebel universal kit. I am happy with it, but you have to crimp all the connectors, they do not come attached. And if you don't have the correct crimper, it is a PITA....other than that they are great to use.

I'm going w/ the American Autowire kit, from everything I've read it's worked great for tons of guys out there. You can get it on ebay for about $458 shipped free all day long...

I'm going with a crap universal kit that covers everything I need plus a lot more I may never use and it was $150. Painless makes a great kit and I have used them on friends projects, but after seeing the others first hand, I honestly don't see a 300% difference.

Yes, it's a universal and I need to splice some connectors, but I am upgrading all my connectors to power pole anyway, so it's not an issue. For the most part, the universal kit is heavier gauge wire than stock, it uses modern fuses, and I will solder all my connections and wire tie the power pole connectors.

So that being said, other than "name brand" and maybe customer service, I'll keep my $300 and use it for something else. I never called tech support on wiring, so paying for a service I may never use seems silly.

A side note, a lot of harnesses are made by the same manufacturer and the only difference is the name on the box. I'll post up pics of my setup if I ever get that far.
