What is the value of a Big Window Cab? Im looking into replacing my Cab...
Ive priced out the panels to replace a small window with big window in my 1955 2nd series, and I have come to the conclusion that it would be more realistic to buy a whole cab, fix it up and swap it out.
Has anyone done this? what should I expect to pay for a cab that needs minimal work? Luckily im in northern california so most of the cabs only need the typical corners in terms of rust repair (rear corners, sometimes lower hinge pocket, but the floors are usually solid... anyways, has anyone done this? Thanks for any input, i did find out that the cabs changed in 1958-59 (hood hinge spacing slightly different)

I've seen ones for sale from wreckers ads on the internet in the south US for $1000 as it sits to $2000 for ones that have been sandblated and primed so you know what your getting. Sorry don't have any links for you, shouldn't be too hard to find though.
completely new re-poped ones, custom made to your wishes (chopped/ smoothed fire wall) are around $8000+ depending on what you want. I'm sure you could find a better deal around your area, I just happend to stumble across the ads while I was boared at work. Last edited by 55metalmonkey; 03-07-2011 at 12:57 AM. |

there are some rough ones in the area that would require heavy work for $400 range, and some that require a little less work in the $800 range... I guess I just need to see how much replacement is needed, but now i know not to expect anything AMAZING for less than a grand. thanks! |

The cheaper ones might be worth looking into. there are smoking deals out there if you know what to look for, could talk the guy down from his price, most people list stuff for more than they want anyway.
When I buy stuff like that, I usualy offer the guy half of what he wants and when he says "hell no" I come up a bit.. when he still says no I leave my number and walk away...70% of the time I get a call within a day or two, guys always want what they think it's worth, their wives just want the money and the thing gone. You might get lucky and find a guy who bit off more than he can chew and wants to move on. Too bad you don't live closer to me, I have a complete big window back cab skin I'm selling cheap, it came with the truck as as the guy didn't have time to complete the project so I'm selling it off to get some of my cash back (only selling it localy though) Good luck in your search |

i would have the seller send you some pic's before unless they already have. been on some really wasted trips because what the seller thought was "easy fix" or "hardly any rust" wasn't even close. i went with a friend to check out a $1500 "with doors" 57' bwc and we drove 3 hours and it was rough! at almost $4 gal for gas i would want plenty of pic's and "clear title" located before my trip.

Re: What is the value of a Big Window Cab? Im looking into replacing my Cab...
yea, I saw that post. I found a cab in pretty good shape, one rear corner might need replacement, the other was replaced at some time and the welds need grinding, about the same $600 price range, more than I wanted to pay but the few i found in the $300 range need a ton of work...

600 bucks is a steel, It would cost half that to have it striped and close to the other half to have it primed.
