Thumbs up New Shoes for the 71

I have ordered the Boss 338 polished lip with grey spokes for the 71. They said I should have them on by lunch time tomorrow. I was thinking about the Coys but I had seen to many of them that didn't fit so I went with the 20" 8" up front and 20" 10" out back. Tires are 245/45/20 on front backs are 275/40/20. This will keep the rack that I have now on the truck.
I sure hope the grey wheels look good with the bottom of the truck being grey also.
I'll post pictures as soon as I get them installed.

Thanks guy's, I sure hope so! The only thing now is it's suppose to rain all day. That's going to suck if I have to drive it home in the wet stuff. The guy is trying to match up some tires for me so I don't know which ones he is getting yet. They are the sizes I mentioned but may be a differant brand.

Re: New Shoes for the 71

Before you mount those tires,... check out the side wall.
I think your front tires are going to have more sidewall than the rear tires.
(Which looks bad,... in my opinion)
You might want a 245/40 or 255/40 up front.

I have a set of these same wheels with 245/40's and 295/40's.

Lightbulb Re: New Shoes for the 71

Thanks everyone. I hope they are as hot on the truck as they are on the other cars and trucks I have seen them on. I hope I made the right choice with the grey! I maybe looking at new brakes up front to go along with the new wheels!
Does anyone here know of a nice upgraded disc system for the front, a bolt on package. Not going to mess with the rear yet but I figured I may as well be looking for the fronts. I just want bigger Calipers and disc.

Unhappy Re: New Shoes for the 71

I'm so pissed! I mean I know it was not meant to be when the guy said the wheel didn't fit, I figured he meant the hub. I was wrong the wheel was a 4 1/2" instaed of the 5 on 5 like it was suppose to be. It was marked and everything it just wasn't what they said it was.
So we open the rest up and find scratches all over them and one the grey was so dull I told them forget it.
The guy say's let me see what I can do. So I wait for almost 45 minutes after waiting a 1 1/2 hrs to mount them. They say the only other set is in NJ and it would be next week before I could get them then I would have to wait a week or so until I got another day off during the week. I was pissed and just got my money back and told'em to forget it! I guess I'll go back to the first wheels Coys and see what they have to offer.

What a shame. Another person falls victim to Boss's horrible quality and service. I also got one wheel the wrong bolt pattern but marked 5x5 everywhere. Grey on the other wasn't the best but I lived with it. Then the guy I talked too had the nerve to question me on the size problem. Yes I can measure jerk!

Wheels are beautiful but so much trouble comes with them. Were you going to turn your rotors on the front and use spacers on the back. That's the other issue with these wheels on 67-72 trucks.

Re: New Shoes for the 71

They won't just bolt right up.
That has been discussed in great detail here.

Coys wheels will bolt up,... but some/most run a "custom spacer" under the front centercaps to get them fit the front hubs.
Member mcbassin was making and selling them for a little while.

Good luck with your quest for new wheels!

Man, what a kick in the ba!!$. Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. At least there's comfort in the fact that your truck looks good with the wheels that are already on it!

Re: New Shoes for the 71

I put Coys on my 71 with no issues. Grey c5's would look great on your truck. The issue with Coys if I'm not mistaken is when people upgrade from drum brakes to disc brakes on the 67-70 trucks and the fit was off a little.

Well I got over being pissed and called them back this morning. They are ordering the wheels again with a no money down until I see them on the truck. Fit the front and back with 8.5 x20 on front and 10 x 20 on back.
I hope it works they said they talked with Boss and everything is good to go.
I know yesterday they put one of the 10" back wheels on the front and it fit fine. No problems. The front wheel that was the 4 1/2 bolt pattern was one of the fronts. I sure hope this goes good whenever they show up. I'll keep everyone psted as I find out more.

I wonder if they had the centercap snapped into place?
Maybe the new wheels have a revised centercap.

You might want a 245/40 or 255/40 up front.

I have a set of these same wheels with 245/40's and 295/40's.
The 245/45 will have 0.01" more sidewall than the 275/40 rears going by converting the tire size, although all manufacturer's vary a bit on actual size. I agree it would look bad with more on the front than the rear, but these should come out close to the same.

Hope you get it worked out, should look great.
