Suburban headliners
Any thoughts or experience with fixing headliners while trying to keep original appearance. Repairing the old headliner not working out very well because they are so crumbly.
I thought about abs plastic sheets and perforated vinyl headliner material. Any one try that or see it done? Haskell

Re: Suburban headliners
I tried to fix headliners myself on many vehicles. I just wasted time and money. The bottom line is . Take it to a shop and have someone do it right. I paid 185.00 a few years ago for one to be done.
Never had a problem after that. |

Re: Suburban headliners
That does seem like a very fair price. Less than I have just assumed.

Re: Suburban headliners
The headliner on my 1990 started sagging and I ended up replacing it myself. The end result is that it looks like a factory job. Here's what I did. I bought some headliner of the right color and dimensions from eBay.
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R4...All-Categories Our Suburban's are very long so it'll probably take 2 pieces of the headliner material. I then scrapped the old headliner material from the headliner board. I then used contact cement to attach the new material to the old headliner board using a very large brush. The results are very professional looking and probably just like how it came from the factory.

Re: Suburban headliners
I like what LMC has done....they have a vacumm formed abs sheet to replace the old boards with. See page 101 on their site. this also fixes the sagging since the older fiber board is usually the problem.

Re: Suburban headliners
yeah, those are nice, but the LMC solution will cost you $500,-...which I think is a lot.
So I am gonna try for a piece of wood against the ceiling and then finishing it of with some carpet matched to the interior color of the car.

Re: Suburban headliners
I found that the local fabric stores have the headliner material with the foam backing attached to it already. that what I plan to do with mine.
