They started production on those vans in 1964, better check the VIN. Had a ride in one of those years ago, tell your buddy to wear a helmut and to avoid potholes. LOL

Those early vans are soooo cool! I've wanted one for a long time. I had a friend that had, I think it was a '70, that I really liked. This past summer there was one sitting in a stack of crushed cars on a semi trailer parked behind my shop. It just made me cry every time I looked at it

That is 100% true. Those things are scary to drive, with the straight axle front ends and the sloppy steering boxes. I don't know what type of IFS suspension you could adapt in the front, but anything would be better than the original stuff.

Cool van, though. Like the patina....a lot!

I think a lsx, maybe a 4.8 with a turbo? dark tinted windows and a real slick paint job on it...most cool.

The hardest part about slamming a van is that the front wheelhouses are directly under the seats, and there's only so far you can bring the wheelhouses up. Everything is in the wrong spot for extreme lowering.

Been there on a '71. Got it really low, but it was more hassle than it was worth. That was in the pre-airbag days, though.

I have a lowered econoline...they are crazy hard to lower. Not sure about the chevs tho....but I expect the same. Best thing is to put a IFS in it and work out the steering...dont go to big a wheel/tire cause you have to sit on it...

I think he plans on lowering it, but nothing too extreme.. Just a little altitude adjustment. We are all very new to the van thing here. We'll all be learning new things on this project...

Thats a cool van. Those redline tires make it look like an old "Hot Wheels" toy. I have always had a fondness for vans, but not in a weird, "FREE CANDY AND PUPPIES" sort of way. There is one in my town (like in the first post) painted flat black with flames.
