Factory A/C

I'm getting this factory (I believe) A/C set-up tomorrow. I'm guessing I should grab every single thing I can from the system. I don't really know much about A/C. I have a few questions:
Any advice or cautions on the removal?
Are there parts available to fix these units when it doesn't work?
Are the heaters any different with the A/C or should I get it too?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Good score, the heaters are the same but you will have your work cut out for you.You really need to grab the dashboard and every part associated with it. You might want to even consider taking the firewall from the tunnel to the inner fender as there is a cutout for the evap.I don't know if this is the same as non ac trucks. Parts are not available other than the compressor but anything can be fixed,

I was thinking about getting the dash. The windshield is already out. I wonder how much it would take to remove it. As for the firewall I was going to take detailed pictures of the holes and hope for the best.

Arm yourself with a spotweld cutter and several spare blades, a big lunch and a couple of sixpacks.

I don't know if they still do, but LMC used to sell some of the replacement parts for the factory A/C.

Take every bolt, screw, bracket, gasket that connects in any way to the A/C system. That stuff is all unique and you'll need it if you want your system to look factory.

not A/C-related, but I would absolutely make sure you get that original radio in the deal. Might recoup all your expenses with a simply ebay run if you don't want it.

That's what I did. I got everything, even the pulleys and belt. I had to slice the lines to get them off without damaging the hard lines. It was actually still holding a slight charge. If I want to put it in my truck it will take a fair amount of cutting in the dash and firewall. Taking the dash out sounds like alot of work. I'll be going back tommorrow to make some templets for the holes just in case.

chevyrestoguy PMed me to be on the lookout for other interesting parts on an A/C cab truck. I found a few. The first 4 pictures are of a different type of power steering. The last picture is of an angled power brake booster bracket. Anybody have any ideas of why that would be needed?

What does the rest of that truck look like, man a full loader. Make sure you get the pulley from the crank for the AC, also if the PB setup is for sale let me know how much. That PS setup is the stock one.I want to see the pic of the rest of it.

As far as the dash fitting the vent work (difuser I think), I got a cad drawing from another member that I am sure is still posted on here somewhere. Alot easier than trying to change dashes. Also, I had the plastic vent balls rechromed and used Plastex to fix the broken corners on the dash vent, which worked awesome.

You scored BIG time! You got some great pieces that are VERY hard to find, especially if you're looking for them. As far the the angled booster bracket, I've seen them before, but I don't have a clue why they are shaped that way. Maybe one of the gurus on the site can answer that question.

You might want to buy a Custom Accessories Installation Manual. They'll have details and measurements for the installation into your truck. Saw a Compressor bracket for the 64-66 go for over $400.00 on Ebay.
If you get the radio don't forget the speaker. If you turn on the radio without a speaker hooked up you'll blow the capacitor.
Check the glove box for the optional light.

Man I wish I was there to scour that truck!

Positraction Differential?

Reverse switch on the 4 speed?

Just take the whole truck!

I think the angled brake booster/master may have been for clearance for the I6 air cleaner.

that's too cool! What a loaded truck, hard to imagine. Sure makes one-stop shopping nice though. Maybe that angled brake booster could be used to clear some absolutely massive headers!!!! (just kidding) - I like Captain's guess and I think I've heard that before somewhere (i.e. I6 air cleaner clearance) - that makes sense to me. But it looks like the truck came with a V8??? The plot thickens....

also get the radiator 4 core was standard for ac trucks tank measures 3-1/2" and brackets on top and bottom with cushions nice pickup on the ac stuff. mike
