New track times
Got new tires yesterday, Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's in a 255/60/15 on the rear. Went to the track last night. Still not I wanted to see, but the times are getting better. Best ran, 1/4mile, I had was:
R/T .819 60' 2.521 1/8 10.430 @ 68.09 1/4 16.102 @ 85.22 Best R/T was .518 Overall I ran R/T .658 60' 2.775 1/8 10.855 @ 69.15 1/4 16.620 @ 82.08 R/T .656 60' 2.407 1/8 10.359 @ 67.66 1/4 16.127 @ 84.00 R/T .518 60' 2.317 1/8 10.321 @ 67.15 1/4 16.129 @ 83.60 Now I don't think I'm going back until after I get my posi and 3.42 gears. Should be in about a month or 2.

Im getting my gears in 2 weeks!!!! I cant wait, its going to be awsome. I am so tired of getting beat off the line! I think im going to go with 373's with possi. I was going to get the 342's but I think I would regret not going 373. Do you guys think I would be able to get around town for a while with 373's since Im not going to be able to get my trans for a couple of months? Will I be able to go down the highway?

That's the same thing I have been kicking around. I did find that at 65 mph with a 27" tire 3.73's run 3098 RPM and 3.42's run at 2841 RPM. I feel that this is not TOO much of a difference. I think i'm going with the 3.73's and start looking for a 700R4. Then maybe 4.10's

I'm not sure about now, as I have been out a while, but used to be, ideal cruise RPM was 2200-2300 at 60 MPH. This is where gearing, tire size, OD, etc come into play.
Also remember a 700 has a 3.06 Low gear instead of 2.48 (I think that is the low gear of a 400, off the top of my head) gldevall, will keep my eyes open for 700 for you. I just hooked my built one to the 396 today to go in my 67 Camaro. I may could scrounge one up reasonable here in liberty. Virgil |

Darn. Them new tires pulled you over my 305 times -barely though. Guess I need to go back with a tune up.
Good job with the runs. Keep going back. It's a blast. Once you add the 700R4 you'll really like the launch. I sure do miss having a track that is close. |

i'm gonna be runnin 3.73's with 27 inch tall tires and a th350. and it will be on the highway now and then. 3000 rpm cruise shouldn't hurt anything as long as it stays cool. well it might hurt your wallet for gas money i guess

Yeah, I've decided to go with the 3.73's. Hopefully I will get them order within the next week or so. Going with the Eaton posi unit. I think that should get me into the mid to low 15's.
