Lightbulb better than new 1978 grille

i couldn't come to terms of spending 300 plus on a new oem grille.

so, i did the next best thing. refurbished my original, cracked, faded, and ugly stock grille.

before (sorry no close up). you can see the missing "teeth", the whole upper left section was broken off, and the lame faded emblem was hideous:

i had a repro one that i was happy to hack up and frankenstein into the original:

you can see the new pieces that are silver:

put back together and ready for paint:

fresh outta the spray bomb booth:

with the new emblem:

still working on the front end a bit, so i don't have any of it back on the truck. yet...

Re: better than new 1978 grille

Looks great!

One question, Did you destroy the sheet metal bowties when you peeled it off? I bought one of those NOS grilles, And I'd like the upgraded bowtie like you have, but I don't want to destroy my mint stamped bow-tie.... I'd probably sell it to somebody If I could get it off without damaging it. The only reason it's still there is I can't bring myself to tear it up while it still looks new... And it's the first one I can remember seeing that was still yellow in the middle...

These are the only decent pics I have from last summer when I got it. I'll have a few new ones pretty soon.

It peeled off pretty easy. I think it was due to the glue behind being just as worn as the colour of the bowtie. I'll take a pic of the old one.

Re: better than new 1978 grille

Here is the finished grille back on the truck:

And for 78 Chevyrado, here is a pic of the bowtie that came off. The glue was just as baked as the colour of it, so it wasn't very hard to remove.
