Need Help: courtesy light/dome light (yes i searched)
first post, wootL and hello yall...... im working on a 75 1/2t c10 short box step.
I am trying to add additional lights, their draw will be too much for the stock wiring, my question is this, the orange wire supplied to the foot lamp is receiving power from what source? Those who say orange wire off headlight switch is wrong, I cut it and lost power to running lights only...ONLY (yes search function I know) I need to know where the factory under foot lamps get their power, I understand the whole negative switched theory, no problems there, all white leads have been discovered, removed and replaced. BUT WHERE DOES THIS ORANGE Bas74rd GO!? Again, the orange + lead that connects to the bottom of the foot lamp is not switched, i have followed it until it hides in loom, about mid dash, held by metal tabs. Thank you!!!!... attached pics are INCORRECT!! Last edited by cr34t3d_by_d4rkd3n; 03-30-2011 at 11:35 PM. |

Re: Need Help: courtesy light/dome light (yes i searched)
the orange wire is 12volt +to the dome and foot well as well as the switched cargo lamp. turning your head lamp dimmer to the left grounds and turns the int lamps on, as does the door jam switches and the wire in the truck is ok to add on 2 foot well lamps. if you test the orange wire it should be 12v or the ctsy fuse is burnt. i think the lighter is also on the same cir. i also have the same upgrade installed in my 72

I know how it grounds to complete the circuit. Cigarette is not on the same circuit, it wasn't factory and is definitely not now (I re-wired) adding an additional light on this existing circuit is NOT OKAY. an average dual element bulb can use 2.2a, stock uses 1.2a on 18g doubled wire. So again, factory wiring with 2 lamps WILL cause a fire, especially with all the old insulation around the factory routing......... SO AGAIN WHERE DOES THE COURTESY LIGHTS GET THEIR POWER...POWER AS IN 12V + FROM??? chevy reinvented the wheel as of 73, so a 72 will be of no help to me..... WHERES ALL THE OLD TIMERS!?
