Need help guys... Sorry I keep asking!

Okay guys my 84 with a 454 out of an RV was running well before i did the intake and carb swap,

It will now fire up but will not stay at an idle without me pressing the gas pretty hard,

I thought it was a vaccume leak so i bought new gaskets again and reinstalled the intake with new gaskets and cleaned it even better than before and reassembled

i even pulled the valve cover to make sure when i had it on what i believed to be "TDC" so i could make sure both valves were closed when the number one cylinder came to the top

NOW after all the reinstallation I tried firing her up and she started after pumping the gas, but as soon as i let off kaput she died again.

I stuck a timing light on it and it seemed way off time it was a good 2 inches to the left of the timing mark and got further away from the timing mark as I gave it some throttle

Can ANYONE give me any advice as to what i am doing wrong here?

They are both used but the Holley came off my 84 crew cab chevy with a sbc In it. Also I was thinking if my timing mark is off to the left then my timing is wayy behind I need to advance it to make it come to the right of my timing mark to show advanced correct?

if it's getting farther off wouldn't it be too far advanced? because the vacuum advance would put it farther advanced, otherwise if it was retarded it would get closer to tdc when you gave it gas. At least that's how it's working in my head.

I agree with Justin on this. It sounds like you have it to far advanced. Without standing there and looking at it, it sounds to me like you are one tooth off on the distributor. If you cant turn the distributor counter-clockwise and get it on 0 degrees with your timing tab. You will have to pick up the distributor and reinstall it one tooth retarded from where you are at.

BTW, don't apologize for asking. Smart people know when they need help!

I knOw it sounds weird but with the timing light hooked on to it it started off around 16 degrees retarted and honestly as I brought The rpms up it moved further left toward the water pump

The more I think abou it If the timing mark is moving further left then yes it is advancing because it is moving toward the advanced side of the balancer

Re: Need help guys... Sorry I keep asking!

with out being there and looking at it or hearing it and going buy what you've said in both threads on this I'm going to say it's NOT the carb its in the timing

so its ether not advancing or the modual is working right or your dist is not in right

Re: Need help guys... Sorry I keep asking!

Okay I got the bright idea to try Closing the CHOKE to see if it would run, i closed it off and it stayed running but as soon as i opened the carb it died instantly this tells me its a vaccum leak, Does anyone know how to go about troubleshooting a vaccum leak??

Re: Need help guys... Sorry I keep asking!

starting fluid. Spray around the gasket area and the carb. If the idle changes, you've found the area leaking.
