Van vs. pickup vx. blazer frames
So, can anyone tell me if a van frame/chassis would match up with a blazer tub?
I know it is an odd question, but I saw a 72 van, complete and a blazer tub. Brought interesting thoughts to mind. Thanks

Re: Van vs. pickup vx. blazer frames
1972 vans do have a full frame. they are all leaf springs >if i remember correct they are a little wider then the truck frames but may be wrong on this
this may be some help http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/framespecs.html Last edited by mbgmike; 04-24-2011 at 10:49 AM. |

Re: Van vs. pickup vx. blazer frames
As stated vans are uni-body, frame is welded to body.

Re: Van vs. pickup vx. blazer frames
actually IMO it's a matter of what you call a unibody. Their is a frame and it is welded to the body. To me a unibody the suspension components are bolted to sheet metal like a mustang. T-Birds were advertsised as a unibody in the late 50's and 60's. They had a frame that was weak between the wheels and ran inside the rockers. Thats why they always broke in half when they rusted out. ANyhow a van Frame would not be much use without a lot of mods. So yes it is a unibody but it is built on a frame. The larger one tons had a frame. So yes blazer1970 you are correct.

Re: Van vs. pickup vx. blazer frames
I get my info from owning a '79 GMC 35 [1 ton] 4x4 van [Pathfinder], the frame is welded to the body. This makes it a unit-body [uni-body], this means the body DOES NOT unbolt from the frame. If you think I am full of **** you should take a walk through your local wrecking yard and see for yourself. Do your homework before posting incorrect information. I have owned other GM vans from the '70's/80's as well as working on countless numbers of these GM full size vans and everyone of them including an '84 Chevy motorhome I stripped down and put a '46 Chevy COE on were uni-body.
