Gas guage stuck on 3/4 tank

Hello guys..Today I bought a 87 burb and thought I was comming up seeing the tank was 3/4 full..Well I get it home and pull it around back to start the tinkering ritual and when completed the damn thing would start..Of course Im thinking it cant be out of gas...Well after checking the tank is empty..Threw some gas in and it started right up so the pump is good to go.

The first obvious thing to check would be the sending unit correct??

Thanks

I yanked the unit out and opened up the little sending unit.I used sandpaper and cleaned the little ball/contact point that rides on the ohm board..The little tabs broke when I went to reassemble it so it it was welded back together...Then I soaked the whole unit in a mixture of vinigar and table salt for about 5 minutes. plugged it all up before it went back in the tank and it worked fine..Btw you can plug an ohm meter in to the plug of the sending unit and find out if the board is working correctly by moving the float up and down .

Thanks for the follow up! I haven't had a fuel gauge problem yet, PTL.
