c10 truck with panel rear?

has anyone taken a truck and used the back doors and rear tail light section and made them into a tailgate? I'm trying to find one that i can use. Here is a quick pic i made and yes i know the tops of the bedside would need to be made taller.

So you like hamb as much as i do.

yeah! thats exactly how i want to build my truck. I want to make it unibody and put that on the rear. I would do it to a panel but i have never even seen one in my life around here, plus i got this bondo bucket for free.

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

The only reason those taillights line up on that truck is because the bed is so much taller since it was a Suburban. If you tried to use them on a fleetside they would be to tall to work with that bodyline. The tailgate would be taller than the bed. You can also see that the Burb tailgate is mounted at an angle. I'm not saying it would be impossible but it would be a lot of work.

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

Well I'm going to make it a unibody and I'm going to have to raise the bedside like the burbs to make it look good, also i did want to lay the gate at an angle to give it a sleek look

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

Might look kinda cool if you made the tailgate into a speedster type spoiler. Then you wouldn't have to raise the bedsides.

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

The rear of the Burb may be wider than the rear of the fleetside. The fleetside narrows behind the cab the Suburban doesn't. Just something to keep in mind.

I find myself strangely attracted to this idea. Kinda reminds me of the 55-57 cameos.

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

If you look at the bed sides vs. the tailgate, the tailgate just needs something, IMO.

Maybe a '57 Chevy trunk chevron and some Chevrolet script or something of that sort to break up the emptiness.

Re: c10 truck with panel rear?

Or maybe weld the "CHEVROLET" stamping from a fleet tailgate into the 'burban gate?
