Question 87-91 Blazer ?s

I'm looking at selling the '98 GMC and going for an 87-91 Blazer. My only experience with these was the '77 rust bucket I owned for about a month many years ago. So, before I get to looking too much I've got some questions based on ads I'm seeing.

Do all 88-91 have the newer 4 lamp front end? I'm seeing some listed as that year that have the 81-87 setup instead.

Do all 87-91 come with TBI? I see some that have a carb instead, which makes me worry about a botched swap.

Any other tips would be appreciated. Probably have more questions later.

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

All 87-91 blazers/burbs should be fuel injected from the factory.
The better optioned 89-91 blazers/burbs came with the 4-headlight set-up,... or a cheaper 2-light set-up on the low optioned blazers/burbs.

Keith is right on. The later ones (after '86) also got reclining seats finally, and most will have overdrive.

You might also look at Suburbans, too. There are quite a few down here. They did get a lot better with the rustproofing post '81 as well.

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

Thanks guys, that helps. Might have a few to look at.

I'm not ready for a Burb Jon. I hate parking the xcab GMC as it is, can't imagine piloting a Burb.

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

The 'burb is about the same as your pickup, for the most part. Just don't parallel park, and you are all good.

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

I bought a 91 a month or so ago and had quite a few questions. There is some great info in this thread:

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

Good link pmpski_1, thanks.

And from what I've seen over the past couple days (including the LMC catalog if that's a reputable reference), '88 has the same grill as the '87. In '89 it changed to the newer look. That's different than what I've always thought.

You're welcome. One guy was talking about the 89 being a great year because of the serpentine belt but having a mechanical speedo, or something like that.

I was torn between the full convertible or the TBI. In the end, most of the full convertibles I looked at were more work than I wanted.

I actually ended up with a GMC Jimmy, so I can't help with the Blazer grill questions

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

They will be TBI or 6.2 Diesel. 88 did still have the 87 grill.

Re: 87-91 Blazer ?s

Yea '87 and up should all have TBIs or 6.2s so any carbed ones would be swapped in. I like the '90 I used to have '89 aint a bad year either. They only problem I ever had was lifting it and cracking the frame where the steering box hooked up!
