Hello everyone, my name's Andy.I'm picking up my new project here in a few days,she's a 60 short bed stepside big window with a 283 powerglide.First on the list is a T5 or a T56 transmission.It'll be my daily/project.

Also I've been having trouble finding good pics of trucks like mine, seems to be an odd combo.If anyone has some decent pics for inspiration they would be appreciated.Thanks agian.

nice truck - and a 60 big window is pretty rare. Congrats. I'm in the process of the whole 5-speed thing too - I'm still thinking about it but there is a new option out there, the Keisler RS. It's based on the TKO but has some pretty good upgrades to it and redesigned case so maybe a little less tunnel pounding with the persuader. It actually runs about $300 less than a similarly hp rated TKO, believe it or not. (No, I don't work for them - and I'm still researching to see if I want to go this way, but here's the link in case you want to think about it yourself. Personally, I was thinking about the T5 as well, but in the end, am probably going to go with a newer, beefier trans. I'd be cautious of a T5 with a 350 motor if you're going to hop it up at all. Then again, it's all budget - and driving habits-dependent. Only 3 big windows out of them. None were step sides.
Still have never seen one with this combo. Makes my wonder if it's all factory.

Is there any way to tell from the VIN if the truck's a factory step side?

nope - only if it was long or short bed. Probably only way to tell is crawl around underneath it and see if the crap under the front half looks like the same age and type of crap under the back half. I'm like you - I've never seen a big window 60 stepper. However, I DO believe it was possible to order one that way. But I've only seen the big window (until now) on fleetsides. Looks really nice too, by the way. Cool truck.

The VIN starts with 0C14, so it's 60 2wd short bed.

The pic at top of this thread has a 64-66 hood. I can't see if the windshield wraps around like a 60 should. May be a 64-66 that someone replaced the grill with a 60 unit. There were big back windows in some of the 64-66 trucks.

It's a real 60.The PO didn't like the 60-61 hood so he swapped it out (basterd).Now I'm looking for a different hood.This one's rusted pretty bad.

Here are some pics of my rusty 60.It'll be needing inner and outer rockers,cab corners, fender patches, hood and doors.But what do you expect for $400.
