rhino liner on floor?

Anyone ever pulled their carpet out and put rhino liner on the floor. I would like to see some pics and get some pros and cons on this. thanks

I'm thinking about doing that too, actually. Although I intend to put carpet back in afterwards but I would feel better knowing even if it got wet it would be okay.

Give me a month or so. I will be doing something like that in my '86 K5. Cons will be the noise, no insulation or carpet to damper road noise or from the truck itself. It will not help in keeping the cold out during winter either.

Just got my truck back from the body man, and thats exactly what they did to my floors as well as part way up the back wall. The floors will be covered by the carpet and a speaker box will eventually cover the back up. Looks good, but I don't have a motor in so I can't really comment on how well it dampens noise or anything like that....

Check out Al's Liner. Its more diy freindly, and they have a product you put down first that is a sound deadener.

Here is mine, its actually Raptor Liner, it leaves a bit smoother finish, Im not sure but I think the Rhino liner is a bit rougher to the touch. It is also on the underside of the cab as well.

Don't have any pics, but I know a few guys who have done this.

Pros: Easy cleaning due to being able to hose it out & looks good(imo)

Cons: inside of the vehicle will be much hotter due to nothing really keeping the heat out. The heat problem is one that every guy I know who did it, isn't a big fan of. Depends how you intend on using the truck, and where you are located.

I had rhino liner put on the floor of my 76 and would never do it again.
You will get extreme heat off the transmission hump and the underside of the floor from exhaust since you no longer have any floor insulation.
The texture of the rhino liner wears off and becomes slippery where your feet rub against the floor on the driver's side. The floor is also slippery when wet or has loose dirt. The dirt also discolors the rhino liner under your feet from constant in/out travel as you use the truck.
For the $240 I paid to have it done, I should have spent that money on good carpet, pad, Huskyliners, and Walmart treadmill mat over the hump and under the seat for protection. That is what I did to my current 83.

i priced it for my 82 and it was outrageous even if i pulled the seat myself. also like was just posted and the guy told me, the heat will be extreme coming in the cab.

My plan is rhinoline the floor but not the hump and use heat shield insulation and rubber back boat carpet. (?)

i was thinking for rust protection under the pad and rubber carpet
may just roll/brush rust paint if no real benifit

I have had good luck with brush on rustolium. If you put it on thick and put it on quickly it will look just like it was sprayed. If you let it get tacky it starts getting brush strokes.

yup me too did a floor one time took a week to dry but it was very cool in the fall

What would be the best roll on liner to buy to use? And how thick can you put it on? Will the thicker you put it on just make it take longer to dry or will it cause problems?

To do it correctly....you wouldn't put it on thicker all at once. you would do it just as if you were painting, and do several coats to build up the thickness.

Ok. I didnt know if you could put liner on top of each other. But that sounds like a better way to do it.

If you are going to run just the liner, then you will need some kind of mats for your feet. This stuff gets wore down quick and becomes slippery.

Mine wasnt rhino lined. I did the 3m sound deadener. Took 3 or 4 cans if I remember correctly to do the floor and the roof. Cost maybe 25 bucks and it helped quite a bit.

I have a 87 short box. I stripped the cab during my build and sprayed rocker guard after cleaning all the rust and loose paint. I plan on putting carpet back down but though it was better to have a rubberized bearer between the moisture and bare steel. I personally don't know of any cons yet and think it turned out very nice actually.

I did mine in Rhino this last winter after a NV4500 trans swap. I love it! You can’t just run the Rhino alone as the cab will be hot/cold and noisy. I added Dynamat, insulation and a rubber floor mat over the Rhino. It is as quite as a Cadillac now. The main reason I wanted the floor Rhino’d is because I do a lot of off-roading and didn’t want water soaking into the floor boards causing rust again.

Floor mats over rhino liner won't work - rhino liner is too slippery for the mats to stay in one place. So, you need to cover the rhino linered floor with something, then install floor mats. So, why bother with rhino liner if you are going to cover it anyway? As long as you have Huskyliners which will contain water and dirt and cover all other exposed areas with vinyl you have a durable floor. If you have rust - fix the rust and spray it with something like rustoleum as described above. Just my $.02

Bedliner won't prevent rust, the expoxy sealer does that. Think of bedliner as a protective coating for what is under it. I have done frames, gas tanks insides of vehicles and many lower sections of pick-ups with it for stone chip protection. Works well but it is just a protective coating not a sealer from the elements. A clean rust free interior floor that has been sprayed with bed liner WILL prevent rust from forming. If water from your shoes cannot soak and fester between the carpet and metal floor how can rust form? Will it stop the rust from forming on the roadside of the floor….No (unless the roadside was lined too). The fix for that is to not drive in road salt or move somewhere that doesn’t use road salt like the great Southwest.

So I think we've established that bedliner alone is a bad idea. So what's the best thing to do? My ultimate goal is to have a floor that I can get all muddy and trashed, and be able to hose it out. Does somebody make a GOOD rubber mat? My factory one sucked. It tore really easy, and the insulation under it just held the moisture. As far as sound and heat insulation, I don't care if its like a new caddy, but I want to be able to carry on a conversation without yelling, and not burn my leg on the tranny tunnel. So who's done what that worked good?
