Fuel Issue
Hi. I'm new here but I have a really big problem that I'm hoping someone can help me solve.
I very recently bought a 1987 V10 4x4 as a work truck. When I bought it, it started up perfectly fine. Only issue was that the gas tank leaked. So I installed a new tank. But now the truck won't start. The fuel pump starts up and works fine (tested it, sprays fuel everywhere), but only a little bit of gas dribbles out of the injectors when I try to start it. also replaced the fuel filter. Does this mean that I need new injectors, or is something else wrong further back down the fuel line? |

Would like to know the same thing. My truck does the exact same thing but will fire up on starting fluid then stay running after that.

I would go back to the tank . Most of the time trucks don't tear up sitting still and you worked on a running truck that now won't run. There must be some problem at the lines or something kinked or pinched. Start there and you will find your problems. Jim

If the truck starts then dies, the oil pressure switch or wiring.
When you tested your pump did you test it installed thru the 'prime' wire in the engine compartment or off the truck? If it was off the truck then you have a wiring issue or a pressure issue (like a kinked hose). The pump is fed power thru a relay. When you turn on the key the ECM gives about 2 seconds of power to 'prime' the pump. After that the pump turns off until the oil pressure switch closes which closes the relay and runs the pump. There is a 'prime' wire in the engine compartment which can be used to bypass the relay for troubleshooting (actually it's used to prime the system at the assembly plant or after service). Quick easy test, turn the key to run while someone listens to the tank to hear if the pump gives its prime run. If no pump run, wiring. if pump runs, turn the key off and then try to start the truck. If it starts then stalls, the relay, oil switch, or wiring. If no start, the lines or pick up are most likely.
