Re: electric fuel pump ?
I agree, on the frame as close to the tank as possible. Electric pumps like to push better than pull. If you’re going to run an electric pump, you might want to wire in a crash switch to avoid taking a gasoline bath in the event of a wreck. Here are a couple of examples:
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...s.asp?RecId=87 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RFW-CR92/ And for some cost savings here’s a thread describing a Ford part available at local wrecking yards: http://www.bangshift.com/forum/showt...Inertia-Switch A Google search will turn up a bunch of other suggestions as well. |

Re: electric fuel pump ?
Yes you should. Electric fuel pumps use pewter vanes and the smallest amount of trash with destroy them.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
That's a good idea...one question, will you be pulling fuel through the sending unit (top), or will you be modifying the tank for a bottom feed? As mentioned earlier, electric fuel pumps do not do well pulling fuel, or running dry.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
My recommendation if you run an electric pump with the stock tank is to modify the tank for a bottom feed configuration. The short dry run time it takes to prime the fuel from the fuel pick up to the top of the tank and then down to the pump will often burn out an electric pump.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
That goes back to electric pumps are better that pushing not pulling. Add a check valve into the mix and now not only does it have to pull a head of fluid but it has to over come the spring in the check as well.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
You are correct, however my last mini truck project(mazda b2200) had a a set up like that from the factory. I remember oogling over it when removing the tank for a fuel cell.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
High pressure pump applications typically have the pump mounted very close to the pick up or sending unit near the top of the tank. In many cases, these EFI fuel systems now locate the high pressure pump inside the tank.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
Same one I have, I did the inline filter before the pump, mounted on the frame, and used the std pickup tube. Only difference is I am hooked up to a blazer rear mounted tank. Kieth
If it had been a higher pressure direct injected pump it needs to go inside the tank for cooling. |

Re: electric fuel pump ?
I have been running a Carter electric pump for about six years now with no problems. It is on the frame rail below the back corner of the cab. Stock fuel line with a filter before the pump. I don't remember which one it is, but it runs between 6 & 7 pounds of pressure. The 600 Edlebrock runs fine with it like that.

Re: electric fuel pump ?
has anyone modified a stock sending unit in the stock tank with an in the tank pump. I am in the process of putting in 5.7 TPI L98. I am thinking of modifying my sending unit to accept an in tank pump. I will have to add a return line anyway. I have an extra sending unit and a pump unit, that a friend changed without completely testing, so I'm going to experiment.
