140mph 81-87 speedo

I have to call bs as chevy never made it, but maybe a camaro gauge printing layed out on a truck speedo piece? I wonder if you would need a trick speedo gear, or if it has a camaro internal or something. i know when i swapped the 85mph speedo in my 80 camaro, the 79 130mph one bolted right in with no changing of anything.

Re: 140mph 81-87 speedo

Man I dont know if it would fit or not. Something does look funny about it though. Like the numbers dont line up quite right or something. Maybe it's just me. It does look cool though

Stupid me would just go ahead and buy it just to see if it would fit. If it doesn't you could always tell him you want your money back, dispute the purchase, etc. I've had some stuff not work out on ebay and I got my money back with no problems at all.

Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!

Re: 140mph 81-87 speedo

it would bolt in the cluser, im just about 90% sure, just if it would read acurate. You can see the paint on the face of the cluster doesnt look pristine, so its been repainted over. Not factory, but wondering what was changed in it. I saw nobody advertising these. I took my camaro to 140 once, and that was good enough for me. Id be fearful to see my c10 hit 140, and id be scared for my life if my k5 to hit 75! haha. Not that it couldnt do it, just that I know at that time the aerodynamics would win.

i dont see it reading accurate unless its guts are out of another chevy, maybe the guts and face from a camaro and the mounting face from a truck? i donno much about camaro gauges though

white haze and bits around the face screws

Re: 140mph 81-87 speedo

I thought about that till I noticed the mkh look to be accurate as well. I'm thinking the spacing on the housing face may be the same, so you could possibly mount a camaro gearset onto a trucks face.

Re: 140mph 81-87 speedo

The speedometer shop I got my speedo from also offered a 150MPH speedmeter for these trucks. They took the standard 100 or 85 MPH speedometer, and did their own painting and number printing on it and totally rebuilt and recalibrated it. I didn't really like it though because the lettering looked like something off a 90's compact car. Cool idea though. What were seeing here might be something similar.

I think so too. The MPH range is past where the stock truck gauge goes both at the zero side and high side.

Most likely a re-screened face with modified internals to read correctly.
