Re: New 1955 2nd design owner
Here is the two different heater control available for this truck. The left one is for the deluxe heater and the right one is for the standard heater which only has an on/off switch. The deluxe heater has inside and outside air, temp control and defrost also two speed heater switch.

Re: New 1955 2nd design owner
Thank you JML55. I need to determine which setup this truck had then. I suspect it was the standard one as there is no evidence that anything was deluxe on this old GMC.
Do you have a pic of the ashtray? Later---DAC

Here is the ash tray and it mount. You can find these on ebay for 10$.

Re: New 1955 2nd design owner
Thanks again JML55! I sure like that "hidden" defroster setups on this era of trucks. It spreads quite wide as opposed to the trucks I am used to working on which basically just have a round hole and thats what you get at first defrosting until the truck is really warmed up inside.

Re: New 1955 2nd design owner
Thanks Kabwe, I have sure gotten attached to this truck in the short time I've had it. Really looking foreward to driving it back and forth to work some soon.

Re: New 1955 2nd design owner--update 1-26-10
Hello folks, yeah I know it's been awhile but I do read what's goin' on but not enuff experience with these trucks to do much constructive commentary.
I have been doing minor stuff to the truck, but too menial to post all the time. I installed a new right window, left door latch, carb kit and welded those holes where the padlock latches were. Changed the oil twice to flush the engine out some after all the years setting idle. Tonite I was going to re-route the aftermarket gas gauge wire so I removed the right dash panel and found an odd bag. It was tied to the light wire that illuminated the stock gas gauge. My first thought was oh crap, there'a a bag of coke or somthin' hid in this truck! well I untied it from the wire and opened it up on the workbench and it appears to be a previous owners method of giving the truck's interior a pleasant scent as what I can identify is cedar chips. It has been in there a very long time as the checkered fabric was crumbling as I untied it. There is some other substance that looks like some sort of spice but I'm sure it ain't no dope! Here's some pics.

That is priceless! - You didn't buy that truck up here in TN did you? Looks like some of the handiwork I have seen around here.

Probably a dumb idea but I think I will add another layer of thin cloth to the inside, tie it up and put it back where I found it when I re-assemble the dash. Thank you guys for the comments. I know it doesn't really pertain to trucks but I also thought it was a cool little piece of history. Later---DAC

Re: New 1955 2nd design owner
Anyone know why they welded angle iron to the backs of these trucks? My 56 had a similar setup.

Across the back of the frame? Factory manual doesn't show anything, maybe aftermarket addition for hitch or liftgate support?
