I have spend the past two years building my small block 327 dual quad motor and Im about ready to put it in my 1966 truck with 4 speed trans.....Im only issue now is finding a set of good fitting headers....
I would like to use a set ot hugger or tight fit headers but I thought i would check it out here first.........Im setting pretty low so I need clearance.

I plan on sitting pretty low when Im done with the suspension, so I ran shorty block huggers. Better flow than the ram horns, but prolly not as much as long tubes, but I guess Im exchanging clearance for performance. I dont think there is that much of a difference anyhow....good luck...

how's about a pic of that engine!? I'm doing the same with my 283 - using an old low rise offy with 2xwcfbs, similar to an old vette setup. Would love to see some pics.

I like your shortys.....where did you get them???

They are just old school shortys painted with 2000 degree flat aluminum paint. Cheap and simple. Thanx tho!

on the 65 i had Hooker Competition Headers like in the link above,but now on the 66 i have a set of headman headers long tube, they came in the bed of truck so i used them they are a good fit but very close to the starter they dump right at the bottom of frame so its a straight shot running the pipe back ,i perfer the hooker's i had before but these were free. sorry couldnt get a good pic with cell phone.

I doubt that those will work with your stock mechanical clutch linkage.

The hedman #69260 are designed to fit these trucks, and they don't hang down as low as Hedman #69090 or Hooker #2452's. All 3 of those will work with the stock mechanical clutch linkage. The latter two will require some slight trimming.

What type of powder coating are you talking about? Regular powder will burn off just like regular paint will.

I love these headers. I am running them on two of my hotrods. They have thick flanges and they get the exhaust collector further away from the head so heat is reduced. They should fit in a 65 and I plan to run them when I put in my new engine. They don't hang lower than a stock oil pan, so they should work perfect for the fatman front cross member I plan to use.

Full mounted dimensions are on the Edelbrock website, so you can make your measurements for fit.

I despise the block huggers because that flange always distorts and blows out if you run them on the highway and really get them hot. Block huggers get so hot they will melt a Percys aluminum gasket at the collector.

Hooker 2452 comp series on two different 64s, both column shift auto trans. Fit great, seems like I might have ground a little off top lip of the frame on the driver's side.

I too have Hooker 2452's on my '65 with the SM420 trans. I had to dimple one of the primary tubes on the drivers side for the bell crank to clear but otherwise no issues.

I did end up cutting the flanges at the head to solve a gasket sealing issue but its not the only brand of header I have had to do this too.

I was going to go with THESE until I got a set of goobered up stainless headers for $5. Also, I went with a T-5 and built my own hydraulic clutch setup, or the OEM mechanical linkage would have been in the way of my five buck specials.

Probably depends on how you are wanting to run your exhaust.... I am looking for a way to run outside the frame rails.. motor isnt in yet so I havent been able to do much... mine is a big block though.

I hate to dig up a dead thread, but wanted to comment on the fit of the Hooker 2466hkr's that were mentioned a few times. I bought a set of them last week for my '66, based on this thread and a couple others. Here are my findings:

They will not work with stock column shift linkage, the collector is directly occupying the space the stock linkage bracket used to be in. The Lokar and Ididit cable shift conversions for a stock GM column are nearly as expensive as the headers were.

The driver side will not clear the stock motor mount stand (I have stock '66 stands, new '66 mounts, and a late 70's 305). I butchered the top of my mount stand to add more room, and welded some reinforcements behind it to make it work.

The passenger side clears the motor mount stand by about 1/8", so just barely. Woohoo, right?! Well... almost. Since my engine stands are mounted in the rear (6 cylinder?) mounting holes the back of the passenger collector hits the seam in the floor, where it sticks down about 1/2". Gonna do a little massaging with a hammer to remedy that.

Not all trucks are the same, so your mileage may vary, but this is how my experience went. Maybe this will help the next guy thinking about getting a pair of these, and wondering how or if they fit.
