Re: Hurricane Irene!!
It's raining hard here now. I think we will be more into a good rain with some pretty good wind now,if things go as forecast. I am just past the tropical storm warning zone. Should be a few inches of rain and 35 mph winds with gusts. It'll be the worst over night. So,hopefully will wake up to some electric if we're lucky.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!
Power went out at 2:30. I sat till 4:30...looked through an LMC catalog and studied wiring diagrams for my headlight upgrade. My work buddies picked me up and now were at Applebee's drinkin beer!!
Never good to hear about a death. I...I wish I had something to say to make up for it. Words never make it better.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!
We got 5.75" of rain according to my rain gauge. I didnt sleep good at all, Kept thinking a tree outside my bedroom was going to fall on the house. Finally the electric went out about 11:15pm. But it was back on in the morning, and then off again all day. The diesel Army generator got a good work out all day.
My buddy 'Jersey John' was a Cape May refugee and camped out with his parents and sister and dog at the local Wal-Mart in his camper. He's back home now and all is good.

Re: Havoc by Irene
Thanks!
Spent the day Sunday cleaning up. The southeastern portion of Virginia suffered a lot of flooding, down lines/trees. Just a few miles down the road from me an 11 year old boy was killed when a tree fell on his apartment.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!
I'm thinking Jersey John is the John I've met, right? I hope their places didn't get damaged or at least not much. We didn't have it bad here. Definitely windy and rainy for a long time. The worst was over night and in the morning things were much calmer. Power was still on until after coffee and breakfast, then a transformer down the road blew. We lost power about 12 hours until about 10 last night. We just headed to Harpers Ferry,WVA to explore around figuring the farther west the less effect. Things were business as usual out there and the weather was great. Not the usual crowd of tourists and day trippers since most come from down where the storm was. I have two 3500a generators and both need carbs thanks to this stuff they call gas these days. I was regretting not having fixed them, but as it turned out we got by just fine.I had bought four 20# bags of ice. I put a bag in the fridge and one in the freezer which kept things just fine...ice was barely melted when power came on and food hadn't started to thaw. The beer stayed nice and chiller in the cooler with the reserve ice.
I hope others fared well in this storm. Man,an earthquake and a hurricane/tropical storm in the same week.

Re: Havoc by Irene
Omg, I heard about that on the news, poor family, my locksmith shop is having a bbq this weekend to raise money and send to the families. My wife and I are leaving Monday as volunteers for a week since I had the time at work. We are hauling my back hole to do as much as possible.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!
This storm was as bad as they said it would be,as far as power outages go. They can never 100% predict the exact path. They can only warn us of what could occur and they did say wide spread power outages. I know it sucks, and I was lucky to only lose 12 hours 10a-10p on Sunday. But,we were just outside of the tropical storm warning area and live where the next power company (Potomac Edison) west of Baltimore (BGE) starts. So,they weren't over burdened with damage. Down where I have a job going on,yesterday was the first day I could work due to power being out. Fortunately I had a one day thing lined up elsewhere for Wednesday and did pretty good.

Re: Hurricane Irene!!
Power came back on yesterday at 2pm. Didn't have time to empty the fridge. The thawed pre pattied burgers in the freezer told me I'd better do it today when I walked in the door!! Phew!! Gotta get some bleach water and wipe out the whole thing!! Oh well, now I need ketchup, butter, mayonaise....
