I think I can attest to the smell or lack of it from the peal and seal product. I live in the harshest heat test environment anywhere. Our temps the last few weeks have been over 110 every day. This OAT, often results in a inside temp of over 140. The average temp for august has been over 105. My 57 has been parked in the sun for the last three weeks due to another project in the garage. I drive my truck in this heat at least 2x per week and it sits out in it all day and there isn't even a hint of a tar smell. In my 'expert' testing opinion, this tar smell needs to be put to bed. Save some money and buy this stuff!

Thanks magicoolbus. Your comments are consistent with what I've always heard from guys that have used it.

It kinda looks like you applied it vertically to the back wall of the cab but I'm not sure why the print on the product alternates stripes? On the floor you installed it front to back, but did you just put it straight on over the old paint (I can't see why not IF it's without surface rust) or did you sand and paint?

Looks like you're putting the gas tank back in the cab, right? Is the carpet just spray adhesived on there and is it just for noise suppression?

I por 15'd the entire floor and firewall. No rust, just precaution. I didn't care which direction I layed the material. After I put it down, I used aluminum tape to seal the seams. If there is ever a asphalt/tar smell, this is a good step to seal it in. The material behind the tank is trunk carpet glued on with 3m spray adhesive.
Yes I did install the in cab tank. Here's a pic of the tank after carpet installed, but before the seat.

I haven't decided yet if I'm staying with the in-cab tank or relocating it. Besides, I've got a little rust right at my passenger side kick panel-floor area that I need to repair before I can do this.

How did you prep before applying your POR-15? I've got a new can of KBS to use on mine.

The PO had put in a late model bench seat and had drilled some holes in the floor. I welded those up and smoothed them out. I also had some minor rust underneath each side cowl vent to fix. You can see the hole on the drivers side vent. The one on the passenger side was about twice as big. Gotta make sure the drains are clear! There was no other problems in the cab. Only minor surface rust. Just sanded off the surface rust and hit it with the POR 15.

I just came back from lunch and the temp in the cab after lunch with the windows rolled up was 140*. It takes awile to cool everything down at that temp, I don't care what you put in there it is still going to be hot this time of year!!!
I don't smell any tar, but on the other hand I can't smell the leather anymore after 5 years!

My floor looks about the same in it's current condition. No seat holes to weld up but I DO have the same rust hole; its just in the passenger side and right at the point where the floor meets the side. I'm assuming I'll have to weld up all those holes in the firewall (shown in your picture) as well as the master cylinder hole in the floor. I COULD just put the rubber plug in there but later if I tried to weld in the hole it would burn the Peel 'n Seal I assume.

Just for what its worth to any non-SoCal guys:

I went to Lowes.com last night looking for the Peel 'n Seal product and it showed not only the 6"x25' stuff we've been talking about but also in a single sheet (I think) 36"x33-1/2"! That might work really nice for us car guys instead of narrow strip after narrow strip. But the site asked for my zip code to locate the product and then said it was not offered in my zipcode.

Too bad, but great for those of you that can get it!

I notice you have a foot operated parking brake. OrrieG has a picture of one on his build thread from a '74 C10. Any chance yours is from the same? If not, what is it out of and how hard (or easy!) was it to install?

Dan, it's a bad picture angle. That's my brake assembly. My 88 donor truck has a close set-up as OrrieG's (it might even be the same). I still need to remove it from the donor cab. I'll try and get it removed soon w/pics.

Lowes still sells it but not at all stores. I checked their website when this thread started and three out of the five stores within 50 miles had it. The same five minutes ago.

I followed the advice on here and went to Lowes today and bought 4 rolls of peel and seal. It was $18 per roll. Not sure I need 4 rolls but I can always double it up if I need to. Thanks for the tip.

PLEASE post "Before", In Process and "After" pictures. Let us know if there were any areas that were more of a problem than others? And also, what prep (if any) you do before starting. Seems everyone uses the little wooden wallpaper rollers to press the PS into corners and seams, will you?

I put the dynamat in my suburban. It's basically the same thing. Yes the little wooden roller works well to get the material to form to all the nooks and cranies. Since the inside of my cab has been cleaned and painted I will wipe it down with a mild solvent then apply. Adheasion should not be a problem. Some people use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the material even more during installation but I didn't need to do that on my last one. I think its a matter of personal preference. I won't be installing this for some time. I was afraid my Lowe's might stop carrying it so I went ahead and bought it today.

Good tip. Hadn't thought of that. I also have a heat gun but that MIGHT be too hot and melt the asphalty-tar-ish (OMG!) stuff.
