55-56-57

[Fleet '66]

I know this is a 55-56-57 thread but since meter swinger showed you some 58 and 59 trucks, I thought I'd share a photo of my '58. Over the years I've had everything but a 57. Someday I'll own one. I really like the 57 grill and hood.

..Oh yeah..that is one nize looking truck..this is the year they made alot of changes, right? Most 58 parking lights that I've seen are clear..I like the ambers on this color..what is the color..pewter? Thanks for showing it.

The fenders and top and bottom cross pieces are different. The fenders and top piece have indentations in them that the grill fits into.
It would be easier to put a 57 hood on a 55/56 or you could just change the fenders and cross pieces.

The silver gmc belongs to a local guy. I took that pic last year in kennewick wa. It was built. By a father / son backyard type shop. Really nice guys that build some good looking hotrods. Mike morris is the dad. Not sure if there on the board here. Ill see if i can scrounge more pics.

..If you had a choice in the 55 or 56 or 57..and all in pretty much the same condition and price..which one would you choose to rebuild and WHY ??

I've owned both a '55 (now) and a '57 before (10 years ago). Essentially, there is NO difference other than the grille and hood on the '57.

For myself it would be a '55 because my Dad bought a new 1955 Chevy two door hardtop Belair that I inherited from him when I turned 17 and I was GALACTICALLY STUPID enough to prefer a van - DOH! He also had a '59 Fleetside so I wanted a combo of both...hence a '55 Task Force. Besides I like the egg crate grill, though I would have zero problem owning a '57 again.

In the true "same condition" you will pay more for a big window than a small window. Probably also true of a '57 over a '55/'56, but you'll find out

I would choose a 57..............Only because I have one I really like the tri-5's and would be happy to own any of the three years.

You're welcome....and SO.............Jim-Bob, Are you truly shopping yet? What's the hold up (besides money of course. That's ALL our problem)

My best advice is do NOT decide what you want in advance if you truly don't have a preference because you'll simply pay more and likely not get as good a deal. Start shopping for '55-'57's (I'd include '58's & '59's but I prefer Fleetsides), then buy the most complete, most rust free truck you can find. Unless you're restoring, need an immediate daily driver, or have no room for a non-running vehicle (my situation) being driveable will only make you pay more. Looking for someone else's abandoned project in a remote area is also a potentially great deal but beware the guy that thinks he's going to get back every dollar he put out for an unfinished truck.

Mine is a 56....orange one is a 55
