rearend gears for new motor setup
ive been thinking about buying the jegs supercharged 350 engine and was wondering what gears would be best for this engine. im will run a th350 trans.

How much street use and how much track use? Any interstate travel or just back roads?

ahh mostly street, some hwy driving because i will take it to shows, but dont get me wrong; i love going to the strip

I just did my taxes and reviewed my SS statement. Thanks to the current administration it looks like I will only have to work till noon on the day of my funeral. |

I'm with Kevin. A blower motor makes an ungawdly amounf of torque without having to 'spin her up'. I think a 3.43 or 3.73 gear would work well for what you describe especially with the highway driving involved.
Let's just play with the numbers a bit 3.73:1 gear, 28" tall tire, TH350, 65mph = 2900rpm with no accounting for loss through the converter. Cruising it should be minimal if you run like a 2400 stall. 3.43:1 with all the same will drop rpm to 2675 at 65mph. (3350rpm at 75 for the 3.73's and 3100 for the 3.43's) TRADE OFF: Let's assume you go to the track and run 12's at 115 (agressive, but boost may surprise everyone) 3.43 gears would have you crossing at only 4700rpm, 3.73's at 5150rpm. A 4.56 gear will work MUCH better at the track (crossing around 6300, BUT 75 on the freeway it will spin a bearing scorching 4100rpm at 75mph. Tough choice eh! a well built 4L80 would solve all your problems

thanks marv, im trying to come up with a truck that i can show and have a blast in. the only reason im planning on a blown motor is because its somthing different

I totally understand speed. That's why I race with N/A small blocks and door cars. Anybody can put a pile of pipe in the 8's with no motor at all, and anyone can put a door car in the 10's with a big block. Low 9's in a steel door car with a n/a small block is not that common. (and stupid from a econoimics view,, but different LOL)
