Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
i also agree with both of you, it is played out to do that as a finished product, but i am only 25, with kids and a very tight budget, so it will be flat black for some time until i can get the money to get the materials to paint it. i like the flat black because if i decide to change doors or a hood or tailgate, it doesnt take much time effort or money to get it back to one color. As of right now, my front clip and tailgate are green, front doors are black, back doors are white and bed is flat black. Wont take very much money to get it all one color as i get the body work done. and as a side note, it you leave it in flat black, when you get ready to paint it, its alot easier to see the small dents when blocking it out, the flat is just a guide coat.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
I didnt mean to say its unacceptable for a work in progress, and by all means, if it's runnin', then drive it! I just meant that it got so popular as a "color" that too many people built big dollar trucks and cars without ever intending to spray color on it. Which is made even more noticeable when theres nice pinstripes or flames on it.
And "played out" is a perfect way to describe it. When you can't go two minutes without seeing a picture of another flat black spray bomb job, then it's gotten too much. Hopefully it goes it's way like the earth tones and bizarre colors of the 70s, or the crazy multi-stripe jobs of the late 70s early 80s. Or how about late 80s early 90s, when all the 4x4s had hot pink shock boots with matching windshield wipers and two dozen KC lights mounted on a triple double rollbar? I'm just gripin' here, don't pay me too much attention. And don't get me started on brushed aluminum finish plastic gas door covers that stick on to make it look like you have a custom racing gas door. I better never see a stick on gas door cover on a flat black truck...

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
Hey can you post some pics of the wheels? I would like to see what kind of center caps and how they are mounted. I have the typical simulators on now but was thinking of taking them off and painting the steel wheels black and leaving only the center part of the simulators on.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
hmm the stripes can go unless it's factory(mine did)
did a truck flat black about 10 years ago, never again... drunks don't see it in the dark, then again passed out ones don't see the shiney gold ones either lotsa lights i like too after looking at the cost of painting the truck i chose roll on flat black , cause the sun melts snow faster!and it was for camping and winter snow /mud my most recent paint is roll on tremclad fire red rust paint.....NOT flat lol

Dunno. I thought I had seen them on a square dually before, but I'm not sure.

Didn't that truck belong to another board member here @ some point? What size wheels/tires are on it?

it's very possible. the guy i got it from had owned it 3 different times. i know its bounced around illinois and indiana and now its made its way to iowa. as far as the tire size goes its got 215/85/16s on it. I have simulators, but dislike the look of the small holes they have. I've been debating on either black, gray or silver painted wheels with either the centers from my simulators or maybe some '88-'98 factory chrome caps. here ya guys go, hope this is what you're looking for

Regardless, I don't know that I would buy 20" billet wheels anyway as I was usually the guy in the group w/steelies while everyone else was using something 'cool' like Centerline Auto drags.... then Welds, then Boyds, or whatever next trendy wheel. I stuck w/steelies where applicable & was trying to come up w/something similar for the CC as well. I definitely like the painted factory 16" steelies w/some 88-98 caps

Novaron,
I like how the U-Haul morphed into an enclosed trailer on the way to the drags. What's the secret to that trick? |

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
Me too ... I'd also like to know how it stretched out to 28 feet. My 20" haulmark seems to be the same size every time I tow it. Is it something in the towpig??
Let us know what the secret is ... Ratty 46 |
