ECE Engine mount pics and tips ?
I have a set of engine mounts from ECE to install my 6.0L. I guess I have an earlier frame with a wider top rail that will need to be cut out in order to make room for the 73-87 style brackets. the problem i am having is that when i cut out the frame to install the brackets, they match the top rail of the frame but the angle does not match that of the front crossmember. Also I thought I had read that I would be re-using the hole that is already in the crossmember to bolt down the back of the bracket to the crossmember. That hole is not even close to lining up with the bracket. If I line the bracket up with the hole in the crossmember and with the angle of the crossmember, it picks the top of the bracket up about 3/4 of an inch above the top rail of the frame.
Long story short is I'M LOST and most of the pictures I find on here are pictures with the engine already installed which does not help. |

Re: ECE Engine mount pics and tips ?
All 63-70 ( i think this far) trucks have a wider top rail on the frame. Only the ones with the Big block possibility have the narrow top rails.
I would suggest for you to place them where you think they should go, take a pic and show us what your seeing. pictures help us as much as they will you. Good luck BTW, I was just in Weatherford yesterday afternoon.

Is your truck a '68? I used the ECE mounts without a single issue.

Re: ECE Engine mount pics and tips ?
Well, let me share what I know. I am working on installing an LQ9/4L80E in a bagged 67 C20. This truck originally had a 283 with 3 on the tree. We 1st tried using the stock engine towers with adapter plates from street and performance. Looked pretty good but the problem was the 4L80E housing was hitting the cab floor.
So, I located some used ECE mounts and to install had to notch the frame as you have noted. On the crossmember I had to drill holes for the front and on the back the holes did not align, they were a little lower. So I drilled and installed the mounts. Also cut the cab floor since I will use a large hump stock cover to allow more clearance for the trans. I have not test fitted the motor but expect things will be OK now. This configuration should also slide the overall motor forward by approximately 1". Hope this description and photos help you. Good luck... |
