ls into a 56 bel air.

has anyone on here put a LS into a 55-57 chevy car..?
i am in the process.... using speedway side mounts. everything looks good except the clearance for the Transmission dipstick tube... no room for that..

i am thinking about modifying the engine plates to move the engine forward..
but i am concerned this might cause other problems.... any ideas?

A firewall mount dipstick tube from lokar should work http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LOK-TD34L60EFM/

Theres not much room to move the engine forward on tri 5s...especially if the radiator is in the V8 location, Then there is the steering linkage to worry about.

thanks for the input... yes, my major concern is the steering linkage, if i move the engine forward....
have you ever used one of these LOKAR dipsticks?

I used street and performance mounts and the hummer style oil pan. This allowed room for steering linkage and clearence for factory 700r4 metal dipstick tube. Shorty s10 swap headers work out well if you are looking for headers at a cheaper price. Good luck with the swap. Check out www.trifive.com. There's a swap area on that site for 55-57 Chevys.

6.0, good info.. i think i am using the same mounts.... mine is really tight to the firewall.

I don't know what you are running for front accesories but the truck brackets work out very nice for the tri-5's. Also I used the stock style radiator in 6cyl position. If you need any other help just let me know and I'll try and help. The flexible lokar dipsticks work good but I hate to spend the extra money. Good luck again and I'm glad that hopefully I helped you out.

6.0, i havent gotten that far yet.. but i will keep this in mind..... i would prefer to use a stock tranny dipstick... the clearance is not looking good so far..
