Custom radio delete?CD player mount?pics?

Could i see some pics of different places people have mounted a CD player?i was thinking my 1989 suburban center console somehow?

Ive done several searches and read up on this, and i will NOT cut my dash on my stepside.

From the radio deletes ive seen, there all black plastic? Is there any nice chrome or polished ones, or would it be easy just to cut out some aluminum the size JB weld a nut on the back and do the clip like the plastic radio deletes?
I imagine i could get "CHEVROLET" in cursive etched on the plate or something too,if theres a way for a machine shop to do that?

Re: Custom radio delete?CD player mount?pics?

Just wanted to post up an alternate idea which I have partially completed myself. I currently have the faceplate for my radio mounted in the center console, and the body/brain part of the radio is where they normally are. I intend on dropping the stereo back further in the dash, and keeping it mounted there, but make it where I could put switches or maybe even a small cubby in the location that the stereo sits now.

Re: Custom radio delete?CD player mount?pics?

It looks like someone had one mounted in the trim piece on the passenger side dash in my truck at one point. I put mine where it belongs, when I cut the dash I just elongated the hole horizontaly and bent the tabs inward. That way if some day I want to put a stock radio in I can just bend the tabs back out, make a couple tack welds and get a new bezel. I totally understand not wanting to hack up a good dash but its covered with plastic anyway.

I just put mine on the dash. If it goes bad I can have it out in 5 minutes.

hmm, thats a pretty nifty idea.Never thought of that. Thanks, something to consider.

and thanks for that pic man.

I was thinking it could be in the AC vent on the left on the passnger side of the dash. But figured it would look tacky.i guess cutting the dash is the only way to install it in a reachable and readable position that looks legit hmpff

I bought a kit for the dash too which was really just a piece of plastic and a piece of sheetmetal. It makes the radio a lot more secure in the dash and it hides the old cutout for the shaft style radio. Im not a fan of hacking stuff up but in this case there really isn't any better option. I think its silly to not cut the stock radio opening only to cut the dash somewhere else for one anyway.

If your not worried bout AC , then maybe consider above heater controls,I did it in my 87 Burb. Got pics I took when removing so it looks like a loose fit , but I did have to cut up into the pad but I loved it,I 've thought after if needed to just move the AC down
