Need Tire Advice for 700R 4 and 307 Gears

Hello All

I am finishing up the transmission install in my 65 short bed fleetside. Had a 700R 4 Built with 3rd and 4th gear ceramic clutch upgrade. Also stalled a 5 lug '72 rearend with 307 gears. An early 80's 350 CI chevy with headers mild cam and 750 Holley is my power plant. I will be pulling a 2200 lb catering trailer around town (with electric brakes) but not at hwy speeds. Trailer tung has about 250lbs of tung weight (frame Hitch installed)

Question: What size tires should I run with this gear/motor/ transmission combination? I want the stance of the truck to be semi low -so low profiles would be preferred. Also have the 2" drop spindles on front. Rims are 16"

Any Tire Size or Manufacturer Recommendations? Gotta purchase tires soon.

I would think towing with 3:07 gears and a 700R4 your not going to get into 4th gear. I have 3:73's and they work great with a 700R4. You will need to have a short tire to raise your gear ratio a tall tire will just give a even lower ratio.

16's?.....I'd recommend a P225/60R16.....roughly 26.5" tall and a very popular size in the late 90's and early 00's so they are easy to find and cheap, too Fits perfect on a 16x7 rim

From the factory, 700's were set up with 3:73 or 4:10's. I have the same combo as you in my 'burb and I went to a 295/50/15 to get 'more gear' out of the too low combo. I was turning about 1700 rpm @ 70mph with a 275/45/20.
