Kill Switch
Need some advice. I want to install a kill switch of some kind and would like to know the best way to do it. What type to buy and where to put it. Appreciate the help!

To kill the engine? Just cut off the supply to the distributer, and it will kill the engine nice and quick...

I want to install it so my truck can't be stolen at nite or when I leave it some where overnite. Hide the switch somewhere. Is that still the best way?

if you wanted to, you can just go to Radio Shack and buy a high voltage key switch, install it on some critical electrical component, and just turn it off at night. It would be really easy to override, but I doubt any hijacker would bother trying to figure it out... Just put the key switch key on your ring and you won't forget about it

seen em up behind the ashtray, sort of hidden.. a friend of mine has a 3 way switch.. one way kills ignition, one way is normal, and the other way sounds the horn if you try to start the truck. that might work

You have a couple of choices as to "what" to kill. You can break the positive connection to the coil and it will just turn over, and not start.
You can also break the connection to the neutral safety switch, and it will not turn over at all. I prefer to use the neutral safety myself. That way the thief isn't sure if he has shorted the correct ignition wires to "hot wire" it or not, because it never turns over. I ran this through a relay, so there was never a concern about the switch itself not being capable of handling the load. There are quit a few options of switches that you can hide, or disguise them in plain site....

i have mine wired up through the coil on the dist. just cranks. you would use a switch like the dimmer switch on the floor as a kill switch, or a simple hidden rocker switch like mine. you could also do a combination of them. like kill the coil. and neutral safety switch, so even if he figured one out he would have to find the second.

How do I find the neutral safety switch? That sounds like the best to me.

Find the large purple wire in the main harness it is the starter wire, cut in half and wire into a reley and the switch side of the reley to any kind of switch and don't forget to ground the reley. This will interupt the starter until you turn the switch.

Buddy of mine installed a cut off switch from a tractor and put it inline with the neutral ground wire. It was located under the drivers seat.
