a welding ?

I,m changing rearend to a 9 in. and was wondering if My lincoln 110 welder would be ok to weld the new spring perchs and shock brackets on.I,m not sure how much abuse these brackets take,or would it be better to just tack them and take it to a shop

Re: a welding ?

Clean and prep well, bevel the edges, turn it up, use flux core wire and it'll be fine.

I'm sure some will disagree....

Re: a welding ?

I think you can make it work, like blime81 said, bevel the edges and turn it up, although I would use gas and solid wire for a better weld.

Re: a welding ?

I use a lincoln sp135+ and can weld 1/4" plate on the 'c' heat setting with no problem.make sure it's real clean and use a magnetic ground if you can.if you have to use an extion cord, use the shortest possible.

Re: a welding ?

There is a chance that you will run the "Cycle Duty" on your 110 volt unit and cause it to turn itself off. That will only affect the life of the welder, not your weld product. If you plan on heavy work, then a change up to a larger unit will cover you and keep you from burning up the smaller welder. Just my .02...

Re: a welding ?

i would use a bigger welder. not saying it can't be done just its just quicker to do. no real prep work . i would just tack it and take it somewhere if it was me.

Flux core gets more penetration and therefore better (not prettier) results on thicker metal. This is extremely important on a small machine where you need all the help you can get. MIG shouldn't be used for much more than sheet metal 110v machine.
