And besides, you sit on a ford seat, but you sit in a Chevy seat.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
I liked the AMT model kit when it came out in '67 so much I couldn't stop building them. I finally got to where glue isn't coming out the seams. Bolts are much neater.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
mine was because i had already had plenty of s10's and 88-98 chevy trucks and wanted something different. i like going to the goodguys shows and other shows around that have to be 72 back to get in and my favorite thing that fit in these years was a truck. plus if you look into it you can build a truck alot cheaper than any chevellee, camaro, or other gm car and in the long run unless you have a rare #'s matching car it isn't going to be worth anymore than my old truck. there's so much aftermarket and then places like this forum to find parts, i mean right now between me and my dad we have 4 complete trucks and enough parts to build 1 or 2 more if we had frames. but they might be on hold he just bought a 67 camaro. but i just love these trucks.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
Years ago when I needed a truck I found what I could afford at the time, a
'65 Chevy long bed, wood floor, v-8, 4 spd. Kept it several years, sold it, regretted it and bought a '71 Chevy long bed, wood floor, 307, 4spd. Kept it several years, sold it, regretted it and bought a '72 Blazer, 350, 4 spd, sold it, regretted it, and bought my current '71 4x4 long bed, 350, 4 spd. I've had it since early '83, this one I'm keepin' !! Just really have always liked the Chevy, GMC designs better than Fords and WAAAYYYY better than Dodge.

Me too... as a tot I rode in the bed of my Dad's '70 C10. Memories of my brother and I horsing around back there on summer days while the old man drove down country roads are good ones.
Then I got a '67 cC0 stepside, and now a 1972 GMC... love 'em. Gary

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
Thanks for the input, I see that many of yinz have a one or more trucks which is cool. I am over the ford thing, I have regain sanity. To be fair until 1985 and up dodge has not bin a real "player" in the truck market and is still not. Nothing looks as good as the c10's

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
I can't really say what made me get mine. It just showed up in the shop one morning and the checking account got low.
The ONLY reason to own a dodge is the Cummins. If I were to buy an '89 + truck it would be a Dodge. |

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
Well I cant say as I did pick one over the other. My 1st truck was a 78 GMC 2wd that I treated like a 4x4. But then I got a 78 Bronco when I was 16 and I fell in love with it. I still have it and Im 33. A few years ago I rescued a 67 chevy 4x4 k20 from the bone pile and since have gotten a 69 chevy 4x4 k10. I still love my Bronco because its tough and goes anywhere I want it to, but my 69 is what I drive every day. SO I guess I havnt and probably couldnt choose between the two.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
I had a Chevy van back in 1974, but my 1st truck I bought from my wife's family when her father was dying. I got my 2nd one from my body man. The 3rd one is 18 yrs newer; it is an 85, but has power steering and automatic transmission. I just like the body lines of a Chevy truck, the older ones, anyway.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
Just always been a GM guy. My dad and both grandparents own GM. My first was a 1964 C10, only owned one Ford, 1959 Ranchero and misc. foreign vehicles. Easy to work on, parts cheaper and interchangable. My dad bought a brand new black 1972 C10 stepside, my favorite, I had a 1969 K2500 GMC and a 1970 K10 with 3/4 ton running gear, the 1972 K2500 GMC I own now isn't going anywhere. My wife is a GM gal too. 1954 Bel Air, 1963 Impala, 1971 Cadillac and 1973 K10.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
My dad used to have '72 lwb growing up. He had a pretty big camper on the back so my siblings and I would ride in the back during road trips and enjoyed it so much. Good times. I loved that truck. I was about 6-7 years old and would always want to wash it. I was also really into monster trucks at the time and I would grab hands full of mud, rub it around the fenders and say "look dad, you went monster truckin!"
My dad sold the truck to my uncle for $200. My uncle took it to Mexico to use as a ranch truck. To this day, that truck is still sitting at the ranch inside a barn. Now in my 30's, I've thought of trying to get that truck back, but the way the Mexican border is now it'll be close to impossible. Fast foward, I just bought a '70 short wide project to bring back some good memories. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
I agree with each of you above. Yes, Chevy runs deep. Over 100 million small block chevy motors produced since the beginning!
Also, I just saw a 1946 Ford pickup cross Mecum with a SBC. Haha. Yes, running deep! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
My very first 4 wheeled vehicle was a 68 had a 327 with a power glide got it when I was 15. it showed 73,000 miles 7 years later it showed 64,000 and I hadn't done anything but normal things to it, starter, water pump, and regular mant. at that time it needed a little work, ball joints, tie rods, and brakes. I fixed that stuff and drove it 3 more years before I gave it to my dad. the crank broke 2 years after that and we figured the motor had close to 400,000 on it. there tough, dependable, easy to work on, VERY stylish, what more could you ask for.. Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
Well I grew up with a family of GM mechanics, all worked for GM dealers and always drove GM cars and trucks. So I didn’t have choice, not that I needed or wanted one but have always owned a GM of some kind, mostly trucks. I just like the body lines of the 67-72 trucks the most.

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
My dad fixed up a 69 SWB when I was in middle school and sold it not long after fixing it up. A few years later when it came time for me to get my first car, I wanted an old truck like he had.
He told me no, it would cost too much to keep running and cost too much for gas, etc. So I ended up with a 4cyl mustang. After about a year and a half of driving that turd, I'd saved enough money that after I sold the "'stang" I bought my 72 GMC. Had at least one ever since. |

I sorta stumbled onto my '71 GMC. I stared at it in our parking lot at work for 1.5 years after the previous owner could not afford to repair the engine. I had known the last 3 owners and have been around the truck for appprox. 10 years prior to me owning it, so it was just a natural thing for me to buy it! My father owned several '67-72' GM trucks back in the day, but was mainly a Ford truck man, as he puts it "because they were cheap to buy", so I can't blame him for it!!! Mike

Re: What made you guys pick chevy trucks
I guess they just chose me. My father hauled Fords and Mercurys back in the old days out of a place in St. Louis so we always had F*rd vehicles when I was growing up.
My first truck when I was 16 was a 1956 F*rd 3/4 ton lwb stepper. It worked out well on our farm. That was a great truck and I liked the lines, when I was away in the miltary it was sold. In my mid 20's I had a 50 and 51 swb stepper, both F*rds. When I was in my late 20's I had got rid of them and lucked into a good deal on a '65 Chevy swb stepper real cheap. When I turned 30 I sold the '65 to a friend and bought a '72 GMC 3/4 ton fleet-side to pull my father-in-laws large cabin cruiser. I guess it was about 16 years later I sold that truck to my brother-in-law and bought a '92 GMC K-3500 dually. The '71 lwb Chevy I gave to one of my of my grandsons I lucked into, I bought it to pay off the shop that had worked on it for some one else real cheap. The '67 swb steeper we are building for me I got from one of my grandsons that lost interest in it when he found out how much it would take to get it in great condition. All the trucks I have owned up to the '67 did not require any work but maintenance, they were used as trucks so they were not restored. Since I am an old guy now my son and grandsons figured it was time for me to have a pretty truck for a change. Don't worry though, I still have the '92 K-3500 for heavy hauling chores. Now I guess that is about it.
