Need Help With 63 C-10

Hi yall, im new to this forum...I have a 63 c10 shortbed stepside with a good running 305. The transmission in this truck is a borg warner t-16, when the trans swap was done by previous owner they hacked the shift rods up and welded them back so it would work (3speed on column). They dont work correctly, they are pain to get to shift. This trans far as i know is a heavy duty three speed from a 68 and operates well minus shift rods. I Would like to swap it to a three speed in the floor to eliminate all the previously mentioned problems, but i havnt been able to find hardly any info on the trans or doing a floor swap with it, or any floor shifter that will bolt up to the t-16. Is this trans a white elephant? I dont want to have to do a bunch of fab work to make this truck a floor shifter, just want something easy to install so i can get her on the road again.....If any body has any info on a compatable floor shifter your help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.....Thanks J.D.

Re: Need Help With 63 C-10

Hurst makes a shifter for the Borg Warner T-16. The T-16 was an option for 65-69 Camaro and Chevelle and some Canadian built Pontiacs. Has a cast iron case and extension housing with 9-bolt side cover. Fully synchronized with 27 tooth 1st gear and 36 tooth 2nd/3rd gear synchro rings. There were two versions of the T-16's. The first had a 2:86 1st gear (which had 1 input groove on the input shaft) and came behind 230, 250 and 283 engines, and the second which was the M-13 option had a 2:41 1st gear (no groove on input shaft) which came behind the 396 big block with 325-375hp .Very tough transmission that handeled the 396/375 HP engine with no problems. It was designed off the same style of teheT-10 main case and has super beefy gears similar to the M-22 rockcrusher. But like I said, Hurst stills makes a shift for it, runs about $300 including the shifter and linkage. I'd stay away from the optional Hurst Daytona which is a generic much cheaper shifter. I know that I saw them in the Classic Industries catalog a couple of weeks ago. The downside of the trans is that parts are HARD to come across, so treat her right.

Re: Need Help With 63 C-10

The only aftermarket shifter that I'm aware of for the T-16. Unless you can find one in a junkyard, craigslist or ebay. The problem with most of the factory shifters is that they were made for cars with buckets. So the stock shifters wont work on a bench seat w/o modification. the models that Hurst has now are the Mastershift (suggest this one) or the Indy (which is a universal lower cost/quality)

Re: Need Help With 63 C-10

So I looked at Hursts website and found a mastershift three speed that will work for a BW T-10. Can't find anything on a T-16, so will this shifter work in a T-16 and have yal ever installed one? Thanks, hope I'm not aggravating yal too bad about this. JD

Sorry I can't help you with the shifter issue, but I'd like to welcome yet another 63'er to the site. Can't wait to see pictures though.

If you look on Classic Industries web site, they show the apps for the Hurst Shifter. Shows that it'll work on the borg warner trans. Can always call Hurst to verify.
