N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I'm thinking about selling this and have seen prices all over the scale. I'd sell it if the price was right. I see as much as a few hundred asked for nice used Stepside gates. So,what's a realistic asking price for N.O.S? Not all scratched up,no surface rust, pretty darn clean, yet. I just wiped it off from being in the shed:

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
Hi Tim, if I were selling it I would have to have $600. on the low end to think about parting with it. The gmc version is harder to find than the chevy in nos, at one time I had five of the nos chev nb gates and am down to two left now and have been holding tight @ $500. on them. Mel

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I agree that the GMC is very difficult to find NOS.
Up until a few years ago you could still buy the Chevrolet through the dealer. I think Classic Bowties is right on the mark on this one.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
Yeah, the last Chevy Stepside tailgate I bought at the dealer was $80. But,it's been a while. I could buy square body bedsides for under $275 less than 10 years ago. But now an '87 is right about 25 years old,so just as rare as 67-72 parts were in '97...15 years ago. Next is the 88-98 parts dropping off the radar. Time sure is a trickster.
Thanks for the replies you guys.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I'll have to check on that. Kinda hard to believe when reproduction tailgates cost more than that. I'd appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
If it were mine I'd put it on the board for 750 because of its' rarity...and since you don't HAVE to sell....

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
That would be great but why does it say as original not original or NOS

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I followed your link and it's obvious all they have are reproduction GMC tailgates for $249.00. They do have Chevy N.O.S. for $349.00 which is cheap and under priced from what I've seen. A good rule of thumb is any N.O.S. part is worth at least double it's imitation. Things change as time goes by. I bought a N.O.S. Fleetside tailgate and hatch for my '72 Blazer for around $220 "a while ago" for both. Just a few years ago I got a '90 Blazer bedside for under $300. Once they are gone from surplus they go up. GM even raises the prices on old stock as time goes by. These tailgates have not been used on trucks for 25 years now. They are only required to keep parts available for 10 years by law. That's a 2002 now.Time keeps playing it's tricks. The 88-98 parts will be getting scarce. Looking for parts for my '92 is the same as looking for '72 parts was when my '92 was new. It was tough to find them back then.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
, you had me hopes up for a minute there. Just confirmed with Adam @ CPOA, the gmc nb gates they offer are repro mar-k pieces. Mel
Another thing to consider on the available leftover/surplus chevy OEM nb gates is that some of them are just that, oem factory seconds and not really NOS with nice crisp/sharp stampings. |

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
actually a MAR-K tailgate is nicer than any nos oem tailgate. much better made. The only thing is if someones wants to brag its 100% oem thats the only advantage.. $260.00 each retail. so anything above that would be a waste as theirs are top flite. same as what we used to sell

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I bought one from Ed @ Mother Truckers about 10 years ago. He had 10 of the NOS GMC's @ $175.00 each.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
OEM is OEM,just like the truck. That's what it's all about to me. I don't brag or care what anyone else thinks. I build my stuff for me
It's good to know there are good reproduction parts.

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
I'll take mine in GM too, You are always a true gent as you put it nicer than I could have. Mar-K puts out some nice products, but its still and always will be readily available repro that can come with small issues/manf. flaws like heavy/overkill spotwelds on the nb gates. Mel

Re: N.O.S. GMC Fenderside Tailgate
Yeah,to me the ultimate is an unrestored original and second best is restored with OEM parts, which is as close as you can get. OEM can be N.O.S. or excellent used as far as I'm concerned. It's only N.O.S. until you use it anyway. The '67 I'm building (at least I think I still am) is being built from all excellent used GM sheetmetal. Even the louvered hood. I want to do something with the tailgate to add a custom tough to the rear,so I'll probably use a blank reproduction tailgate. What I plan is my little secret. But,maybe I'll just paint the OEM one, too, when the time comes to keep that OEM thing complete. I'm considering also painting a stock hood so I can swap that on.
