Is this a factory paint scheme?
I saw this truck at a show today, it was very, very sweet. I saw an order sheet on the front seat, but it was partially covered up. I thought I saw something about "special sport equipment, or something of that matter.
It's a 77, with a 350/4 speed.

Yes it is! In fact, I just purchased an old PV4 magazine and they had an article in there on a similar 454 powered truck sharing the exact same colors.. I will post the article tomorrow when I get to work.

Very, very nice- -and rare- -example of a '77 Sport! Obviously, that rig is either a totally well-cared-for unrestored original, or completely restored to showroom condition. I am guessing that it is the former, with very low mileage to boot. The reason I say this is that it appears to have the original (single) exhaust system that was installed on the assembly line. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the original diffuser screen attenuator on the tailpipe tip seems to be intact. This item is almost never seen on replacement exhaust tailpipes- -not even those sold over GM dealership parts counters.
The pictures suggest that other than the Sport package, the pickup is rather lightly optioned. The 4 speed/350 package seems like an appropriate and desireable option, however. Anyway, I suspect that the original buyer of that pickup knew that he had something special, even back in 1977! And the same can be said of any subsequent owners. Yes that is stock. It was the "ChevySport" option. After looking close at the interior pics, I will have to say it's a restoration, but things aren't quit right. It has a dash bezel that's from a Silverado, but the steering wheel is not. It doesn't have the woodgrain insert that the Cheyenne or Silverado has.
I'm guessing it was a Scottsdale, and was "upgraded" when restored. One more thing that isn't right either is the front bumper. Part of the "Chevy Sport " option package was the "rub strip" front bumper.... Here's a pic of an 82 "Chevy Sport"... Last edited by N2TRUX; 08-25-2003 at 12:19 AM. |

Damn, except from the roll bar and the engine...these two trucks look identical, right down to the ugly wagon wheels!!!

Based on this pic from the 77 Brochure, I'd say they did come with the rub strip bumper. It is also specifically mentioned in the text of the brochure.

Brochure pictures are often misleading since the vehicles pictured usually have an assortment of separate options.
In this case, the Deluxe Instrument Cluster (option BC2), Custom Steering Wheel (option N31), and VG3 Padded Bumpers were separate extra cost options available on all trim levels, although the BC2 and N31 features were standard with the Silverado trim package. (Well, actually, the N31 steering wheel was standard only on the 2 wheel drive Silverados- -and Cheyennes- -at the time.) '68 stepside's truck appropriately has the BC2 option, as does the PV4-tested truck, while the PV4 truck also has the N31 option. Anyway, interesting posts. Why is the spare tire on the tailgate of that stepside? I can't think of anything you would gain, except maybe a hernia from closing the tailgate.

Some one was apparently high when they designed the "sport".
That would explain the colors and spare tire location.

Aside from the spare tire mount, I like the way those "Sport" stepsides look. I like the paint scheme and the stock rollbar. I'd be cool to have one, bet every one of those trucks owners at some point removed the rollbar and gave it a paint job though.

I think the spare tire is hung on a support which you have to open ( normally , to the right side ) before you can open the tailgate.
Some 4X4 ricers have such a feature... When I bought my C-10 , there were two brakets left on the right side of the bed , near the tailgate , one on the upper , the other under. But the support was long gone... The Baron |

Hello,
This is a thread that hits close to home for me. My Mom and Dad bought a brand new “Chevy Sport” in 1978. They paid $6000.00 out the door for it. I was 13 at the time and loved that truck! The specs were; Cardinal Red Scottsdale Stepside 350/350Auto 2wd Alloy wheels Red/Orange/Yellow decals I remember the dealer also had a white 4wd that had the same stripes and alloy wheels. My mother drove that truck until it absolutely rusted off the frame. I hauled it to the junk yard for her after I got out of the service. I still have the wheels, engine, and the hood ornament. Over the last few years I have searched, unsuccessfully, for a source of supply for the “Chevy Sport” decals. I want to do a clone of the truck someday. cant say ive ever seen a truckwith these stripes on it yet. theres soemgood picsof the GM wagon wheels withholes ofr ralley caps atleast, i have some around in my parts stash, GM made some 6lug ones also |
