engine covers/ swfabrication
Does anyone know where to get custom engine covers? i checked LS1tech.com and there was a previous vendor "SWFabrication" that was making them, but is now MIA. I have an LQ4 with a F.A.S.T. intake in my 72 blazer and I am looking to do something custom to the cover. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
Do you need "Car" style side covers or the "truck" style top/side covers?
there are a couple companies I've seen that do some custom ones for the vettes and gto. I haven't seen any custom covers for the truck engine, except ones that people make themselves.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
Sorry, I forgot to specify. I have the truck set up and intake manifold. The intake manifold is huge.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
For the truck manifolds I can only think of these;
Early truck square top cover only "Vortec 5300" truck with side covers "Vortec 6000" truck with side covers "Vortec Max" truck with side covers Cadillac top cover with same side covers I don't remember a 4800 cover but there might be one. I have part #'s for some, but if you check the larger OE sellers online, they usually have them for sale. I think my 3 piece "max" cover cost ~$100-115 when ordered all together.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
I wonder if someone with some fiberglass skills could just modify one of those, or just outright make one. thanks!

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
It would be very easy to modify one. Depending what you want to do that is.
If you have a friend with one, you could use his as a mold with some release agent or foil etc, and build a full custom one. Do it. now.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
DIY dude. Fiberglass isn't hard, just time intensive. Unless you've got a friend who does it, you'll probably end up paying way too much for it. No one wants a $350 engine cover (at least I don't think).
If you grab some resin and fiberglass mat and weave from the autoparts store, along with some stuff like foil, brushes etc...you MIGHT spend $90. If you ever did paper machete as a kid, you can do fiberglass. I can walk you through a bit more, if its something you decide to do.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
ok maybe I am confused but if you have a FAST intake I dont think that was meant to be covered. Saying that you can do what ever you want as it is your project but a high dollar aftermarket intake is normally something folks are proud of. That being said there wont be one that will just "bolt" on to that intake.
If you have the stock truck one then like said above there are a couple options that can be modified or painted or what ever. Good luck Dave

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
Yeh, i meant to specify more of the coil cover section, rather than a full engine cover. I dont plan on covering the FAST intake.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
Ok...then you don't have the truck manifold as I asked. The FAST setup is the car style. If thats the case then the corvette style side covers are what you are looking for. They come in a few styles, and a couple companies make "custom" ones.

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
FAST makes a "truck" intake. Is this the one you have?

Re: engine covers/ swfabrication
there are no provisions on the FAST intakes for covers as the GM units have for their fugly intake. but if you are wanting coil covers then there are plenty of choices out there. Heck, the shop that does my custom machined parts is doing coil covers for mustangs and asking me if I want to do some LS stuff....

I didn't see the seperate truck version when I was poking around, cool piece but I know Shon has that stuff for a pretty good price.
