Re: Redneck rechrome

Most of those type of mirrors were a polished stainless steel, not a chrome finish. So clean up should be easy.

Re: Redneck rechrome

Another trick for chrome is wood bleach (oxalic acid.) I've used it for old chrome bicycle parts and a little with older wheels...

I guess with google, there really aren't many "tricks" haha

Re: Redneck rechrome

look's good .
years ago I used to buy and sell alot of old motor cycle's, I'd alway's polish up all the crome with Brilo pads or steele wool, it would turn a $100 bike into a $1000 bike in an afternoon.

Re: Redneck rechrome

Yes, steel wool will work. That's how I cleaned up my bumper, turn signal lever, shift lever, chrome wheels and many more. It works great! Just make sure that you don't rub to hard or long because the chrome will start to come off.

Re: Redneck rechrome

I find SOS pads work the best as the soap that is in them prevents the steel wool from scuffing anything.

Re: Redneck rechrome

I like using Brillo pads with the soap in them. Cleaned my headlight bezels right up, also cleaned my drip rails up and tail light trim.
