1982 305 and tranny into a 65 with a 230 and a muncie 4 speed?
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and building a sb 65 c10 thanks for all the awsome info and great inspiring pics. Thanks for all the quick responses I have already been picking some brains. My buddy has a running driving 82 with a 305 v8 and auto trans, and wants to upgrade to a newer front clip off of a running 1991 burb that he got for parts, he's keeping the front clip, doors and 350 motor and says he'll give me the motor and tranny off the 82 and the complete crossmember ,suspension, brakes and steering of the 91 if I help him with the swap, which according to the FAQ a 91 crossmember will bolt right into the 65 . Will that combo work in my truck also would the 82 auto column fit? The 91 one burb has a 5 lug rear end will that fit under a fleet side with out to much fab work? Also does captain fab make a bracket for the 91 booster fit on the 65 cab? Any help questions comments would be appreciated, I'm so stoked my friend offered me those parts hopefully I'll be on the road alot sooner faster and safer!!! Thanks love this forum wish I could be on it all day.

Yes you can use those parts on your '65. The later model column can be made to work, but it will require some wiring and fab work. The '91 rear end will be 1-1/2" wider than your original rear end. You will also have to cut the leaf spring perches off as well as the shock mounts. Then you will have to weld on the trailing arm mounts, and fabricate a panhard bar mount on the '91 rear end. There is no bracklet necessary to use that '91 booster. There are mounting brackets riveted to the booster. You will have to drill some holes to bolt up that booster. The booster brackets that I sell are 100% bolt on, but use different boosters.

Thanks for the quick reply CaptainFab, that's awsome it will work! What booster do you use with your bracket Captain? So when you say the rear end is 1.5 inches longer that's 3/4s on each side right? Can't wait to get started!

Oh and I just thought I could use a floor shift since the hole is already there from the 4 speed and leave the 65 column would that be possible? Sorry to bother so much thanks.

If it were me I’d rather keep the 65 column and run a floor shift. Some of those late model columns aren’t very attractive mounted in a vintage vehicle.
The existing hole in the floor pan probably isn’t going to help much with an automatic floor shifter. You’ll most likely need to patch the existing hole and cut a new one somewhere else. The manual shifter normally hangs off the driver side of the transmission, while most auto shifters are mounted directly on the centerline of the transmission. If you desire the Lokar style shifter, they are available to mount either directly to the transmission, or in a cable style that allows the shifter to be mounted to the floor pan. Either type has a lot of flexibility in mounting, allowing you to place the knob right where you find it most comfortable. http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/shi...p-shifter.html http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/shi...s-shifter.html |

Yes, the rear end is 1.5" wider overall....3/4" each side. There are several boosters that my booster bracket is designed to work with. They are mentioned here in the for sale thread.....

Yes you can run a cable operated auto trans floor shifter such as a B&M, and run the cable thru the hole for the 4 speed shifter. However, I have found that when the shifter is positioned in a comfortable location, it does not cover the 4 speed hole completely. So I have welded a filler piece in the hole anyway.
