I dont wanna look stupid!!!
Tommorow is the first day of schoool(crappy deal) for my grade 12 year, and i dont wanna look like a foool tommorow mornong when i roll in to the parking lot. Last couple nights or so, my power steering has been squaleing and working really crappy. the actual powert assist is intermittent. The pump was disconnected and removed from the engine about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then it has squaled and carried on. it seems to me that the pump is pooched, but any suggestions are definelty welcome. thanx alot.

IF I read propperly, you had the pump off the engine, then re-installed, and now it works off and on and squeels like a pig.
Jack the truck up and secure with jack stands. Slowly turn the wheels back and forth from lock to lock a couple dozen times. Walk away and play on the board. Go back and repeat the turning from lock to lock. Drop truck to ground and fire it up. Turn the wheel just a little bit, then kill it and check the fluid. Drive around the block. If all else fails, cut the belt that runs the power steering. |

I had the same problem. Put the front end up on stands. Fill the make sure the fluid is topped off. Turn the stearing columb from within the engine compartment. As you turn lock to lock SLOWLY...you will see bubbles rising from inside the resivor. Keep doing this untill they dissapear. It took me 45 minutes. Good luck.

Sounds crazy, but I did all this and it kept doing it until I bought a new belt. The old belt was kinda "glazed". It may not work for you but it's worth a try.

A new belt? that sounds like a good idea. Whats involved in changing it? I know i willl have to move the alternator/water pump belt. Do u just loosen a couple bolts on the power steering pump bracket so that the pump will tilt enoguh to move the belt off? Ive never done this before.Thanx Fer all The input

I just changed both belts on my truck, and IIRC, you do not need to loosen the PS pump to put the new belt on (At least I didn't). It will be a little tricky, but I think I popped it on there with the aid of a screwdriver. Ran it for a day, then checked and it was still tight. It's probably a good idea to just replace both belts at the same time, if you don't know when they were changed last. The alternator will definitely have to be knocked loose, but it's not a hard job especially if you have a helper.

yeah, removing the alternator is no biggie, its been off afew times. the engine in this thing is almost brand new, so everything should still be easy to remove and replace. famous last words.
thanx dale
