Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Amazing! Everything is impressive, but one thing I really liked was how perfect the hole was for the roll cage in the sheet metal in this pic:

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Another interesting project, I put a 302/T5 in a 73 Mercedes for a budget race car series. I skipped the part about mounting the engine at this point, because later he had me ditch the stock suspension and build some from scratch, which meant I redid it. But I made a small carb hat to keep everything under the stock hood. This car is definitely not my nicest work, since it was meant to be cheap and not detailed at all. But I did not cobble it together by any means.
Got a new shop around this time... Exhaust is a long story on this one. Initially I was going to build some tube headers for it, that would clear the steering box on the DS. Then the budget got cut down, and I was told to run stock cast manifolds. However they did not fit around the steering and would not work. So I was instructed to turn them around and make it work... In an effort to make things equal the passenger side looks funny, but I got both sides within 2". Best I could do with the space. Anti-rock link for the engine. Painting... Videos from Police training yard. Will see if I can find the painted pictures. He painted it himself, with a brush.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Here I lowered a Diesel Rabbit truck, a lot...
He adjusted the coil overs down another 3/4" or so that weekend. That was as low as I could get it, and still get it off the lift. Even then, we had to lift up on the truck to pull the legs out. Only thing that fit under it was a small scissor jack.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Here is some full stainless exhaust I did on the VW.
There is so much more, a new shop truck for myself, a full frame build, IRS on a crew cab Nissan...but I will wait and upload those later on. Gotta get some work done today.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
That we actually bought from Speedway Motors. But it would be a cheap way to get a steering wheel ring and make your own wheel. We went through about 3 steering wheels on this car.

Love all the fab pics. Thanks for sharing. I love the idea with the valve mounting bar/extra air storage. Sweet idea!

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Thanks Nate. I really like that project. He made a wood form for the dry sump oil tank, and will be bringing it by next week so I can repeat the shape in aluminum. Then it's actually pretty close to driving after 2 years off and on. He is doing the wiring and plumbing himself.
I've also been asked to do another one potentially, with a more basic approach. Not mid-engine, but his idea is similar to the race taxi. Will be fun if that one comes through.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
Ok here is another one.
I'm sure most of you remember the D50 I did an air tank back half on. Well its back for a full build. The body was in pretty sad shape, door body work, 400 lbs dash full of bondo, suicide door that was impossible to line up, bad bodydrop. The front frame had been hacked up pretty much beyond repair, and under the cab it was showing signs of rusting through. So we got a donor truck. Header is semi-tuned equal length. Disposing of the old... Bondo was over 3/4" thick on most of the dash. Starting fresh, reusing the back half and arms I built. Lathe in the background, circa 1945~ish. Upper arm mounts are not done, they will be tied into the lower arm mount to make a clean multi purpose tab. Did not have time before the show.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build
More...
Back window was an inside joke with the owner, since he had so many stickers on his window, and ti was already pitted. So we covered it in as many as we could find. Before firewall was cut enough to slide the cab forward, but gives you an idea how much it will tuck, after cutting half the rockers off. My truck next to it. Making sure I got the wheelbase right, as I shortened it slightly to close the bed gap up a bit. How it sits right now. Got the motor to clear the stock hood, without cutting the bracing, and keeping the engine at a proper operating angle. I now have the engine out, so I can do the front frame horns (hard to make look good). Truck has a long way to go, and I will be back to working on it after I finish putting a custom Supra based IRS in a Nissan truck.

Yes we are doing RHD swap, and building an 40s Dodge dash to go with it.

Which wishbone are you talking about? It would be best to email me, I do not believe I am allowed to talk about business here.

Sorry I have not posted in ages, life has been a bit crazy!
Doing a bunch of repairs on an 05 Corvette right now, and finishing up the back half on the green Nissan.
