Re: looking for tail lights suggestions for a 55 first series
I've got a '54 and I've been wondering the same thing.
I'm thinking of going the LED route and fabbing into the roll pan. Maybe even do a 3rd brake light LED style in the top of the tailgate. I figure by modifying a roll pan would be best. That way if I wanted to go back to the original look, the roll pan can be easily replaced. Here's a cpl images i've found.

I don't know about backup lights but I am a fan of the stock lights (painted or Stainless) like the yellow truck above.

Re: looking for tail lights suggestions for a 55 first series
I'm like the stock looking ones too but was hoping I could see some with a backup light but that small I might be asking for too much, might have to find something small in the middle if that's where mount my plate,

Re: looking for tail lights suggestions for a 55 first series
these were cheap and easy to fit in.
i'm thinking they would fit well into the bed rails these are red and amber, they also have white. i bought mine for $7 each, look around. pacer-mini-led-lights found the clear on amazon for $9 summit has the red for $12
