Will a floor trans jack work?
Will a floor trans jack work on a stock height '73 K20? I looks like that most I have found go from around 8"min. up to 24"max. I'd really just like to get a high lift trans. jack but working on a budget is the key right now.
Thanks, Adam

Re: Will a floor trans jack work?
You should be good. My belly is at 24" on my 68 K20 lifted 4" on 35s, so you should be below the 24" maximum range of the standard jack. At the worst you could measure it, but I'm guessing if that was possible you would've done it.
I'm going to work on a buddies 84 K30 this afternoon and I'll measure the distance to the tranny and subtract for the 4" lift and 37s if you want one from your body style.

QUOTE] I can but by the time I get home from work it's alread dark and then to get down in the muddy yard...I hoped somebody out there had tried and it worked or failed. I will probably measure tomorrow anyways. I'm hoping maybe I can work on it over the holiday weekend...but we'll see how far that gets.

Re: Will a floor trans jack work?
I was just under a lifted K30 and taking in account that he is lifted 4" and runs 37s (another 4" over stock tires (29s), you should be fine. He measured 27" to the pan, so subtract 8 and you're looking at approx 19", which gives you some wiggle room with a 24" jack.
And at the worst throw a few 2x4s or 4x4 chunks and get that extra few inches.

Re: Will a floor trans jack work?
I have 74 K10 axles, tranny and transfer under mine. R&R with a 2.5 ton floor jack with no problems. Did have the cab off which made aligning it a little easier on the install.

Re: Will a floor trans jack work?
Yesterday I picked up the transmission floor jack...maybe next weekend I can use it. It will be nice to have the trans leak fixed and the mount replaced.
