Sweet looking burb sounds like its gonna be a fun project. The color combo sounds great can't wait so see some pics. Oh and I agree with the way you wanted to split up the colors that sounds better to me as well

Parts are cheap, $150 or so for a master rebuild kit with upgraded friction material, $600 for a master kit plus just about every upgrade for a wicked street trans. The expense goes through the roof when you pay a shop to do it or break hard parts.

Look it up on youtube, there are several videos of people building their own. These high volume shops want to make you think it's black magic but it's not. Then again, if I was selling a product for $1500 that took me 4 hours and 200 bucks worth of parts to put together, I'd probably want people to think it was black magic too. lmao.

HP builders are another story, it takes alot of knowledge, experience, and the correct machines to do a reliable race trans.

well, i officially have 2 suburbans almost completely torn down now. i bought another 88 but this one has barn doors. the 88 i bought originally had too much rust in the body. if i hadn't made the 2 hour trip when he busted out that michigan title, id have run for the hills! it's all good in the hood now though. body guys have gotten a good start on it, and i've got it almost all the way torn down. i just need to finish tear down, then i can get it prepped for the 5.3 swap. i'm looking forward to doing a cleaner install this time. the install on the short wide wasn't a bad job, but there were a couple things i could have done better. the ball is rolling, just need to keep building momentum!

well, there's been alot of progress, but still so far to go! almost half the truck is in primer as of today. i took some pictures this afternoon, but left right as my bodyman started spraying primer. i'll take a minute and let you guys know, my bodyman is my cousin. we have always been "car guys" and i can definately give him partial credit for my love of all things automotive. if any of you are on the b-body caprice forum, he goes by nashsurecanpaint. heck of a bodyman. he's been in the body business about 15 years and is nothing short of amazing. he's cleaned up the seam between the top and the body at the pillars. i chose to do away with all the locks, but keep all the door handles. just so i don't lose functionality. this is intended to be a slick driver, not a weekend warrior. i've lost the silvy badges on the fenders, and i'm sure that there's more i'm forgetting. to some it may look like a lot of body filler, but it takes a lot of work to get our trucks straight. the nicest trucks out there have more filler than anyone would like to admit.

pulled 5.3/4l60e from the shortbed. prepping burban for engine swap now. the body is getting wet sanded now and should be getting painted early next week. i have a pile of new parts and i'm expecting a brother's shipment to arrive any day now. i'll get a few more pics in the morning, but i've got one nice one.

You're in the same boat I'm in. Did a 6.0/4L60E swap in my blazer and lately I've been craving a burb. I may sell my blazer as is and go for a big block burb though so I can use it as a backup tow rig if needed.

I'm liking the idea of the extra room. When family visits, plus kids, we are a little cramped in the blazer

firebird-i think the 6.0 would make an ultimate tow rig out of a burban!!

made more progress today. got the shortbed sold today. that feels nice. body men wet sanded most all day and i prepped the firewall and justin (mr.ballard) threw down some color on it before he headed home. i painted the core support and clam shells real quick too. tomorrow the engine heads into its final resting place. i use the term resting casually haha. hopefully i can get the engine sat in and fuel plumbed in tomorrow, because it's back to my "real job" wednesday!

the holes in the color picture are where the hood hinge bracket bolts to. that's why it's not straight. the firewall looks pretty good if i don't say so myself!

Exactly, these trucks did not come very straight even from the factory. One example is the rear quarter panels just below the rear side windows. I've put about 10 hours of work to get the waviness out of them.

It does okay in the power department but it doesn't compare to the grunt my 79 big block pickup makes. It does however make a sweat little engine to tool around in the blazer, just not enough room anymore.

Beautifull color choice by the way,,,can't wait to see a finished pic out in the sunlight.

thanks for the encouragement guys! i'm right there with ya in the room department firebird.

todays progress wasn't too impressive. i got the engine in and bolted down. bolted in trans crossmember. changed fuel pumps out, still need to get some ferrules or compression fittings (whatever the technical term is) to splice in my filter/pressure regulator. got a very small amount of wiring done, but not too much. that's about it for the day. one lone pic today.

well, the engine swap is finally complete. it felt really nice to take my sweet time putting it in. generally, when i'm working on a vehicle, it's just go go go to get it back on the road.
