Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

One my '66....

- Replaced front lower hood panel(great), cut out all brackets for mounting turn signals and hood latch....

- Screwed in cab corners with one screw instead of cutting out old and replacing with new.

- Cut the wiring for the headlights, had to rewire.

- Upgraded to power brakes/5 lug(great), horrible/****ty welds in which I will be fixing soon.

I'm sure I'll find more....

But that's not what these numbskulls do. They squirt it in there between dirty unprep'd metal cavities, and now moisture is held up against the unprotected metal. I've even read in these forums of guys saying they use the stuff that doesn't absorb moisture. But that still doesn't work. I pulled that great dry foam stuff out of my cab corners. The foam stuff was nice and dry inside, and still holding moisture from condensation against the metal.
I think my buddy blew it out w/an air hose, that's about it. Squirt it in... Rust is already there, and he lives on a gravel road. Poor 51. I saw a 64-5-6 in a salvage yard, the roof had been filled w/great stuff-it almost looked like an acid in the product actually started the corrosion. Rust/corrosion was crazy.

The PO of my '64 went the fiberglass route in the kick panel/floor corner, after buffing the rust w/wire brush on a drill-the glass peeled right off like a orange peel. He also fiberglassed the bed stake holes up. Truck had a camper so there were many holes drilled around the stake holes. I welded it all up.

I think that's for the clutch linkage.

No, wait. maybe not.
The hole above the e-cable I think is for the clutch.

Or another small block with a pretty normal intake oil leak. Did he pull the intake and replace the gasket? Of course not. He took RTV and forced it into the gap. Of course that stuff was all through the engine.

How about a PO cutting the exhaust off close to where it connects to the manifold. Then using something that looked to be a combination of duct tape and jb weld to try and put it back together?

Mismatch length shocks on the front of a car. (yes I’m serious).

How about a PO cutting the fuse box out of a Chevelle. I said CUTTING. The entire bundle of wires where it exited the fuse box. Then “reinstalling” by simply twisting the cut wires together and taping them with electrical tape. And this was in a car that the guy had paid a body shop to totally strip, replace rusted sheetmetal and do the body work. I know the shop, he paid GOOD money for this. Then what did he do? He RATTLE CANNED the paint job on.
That sounds like a tweeker.

As most of us know; the V-8 Motor Mount Perches are a tad tall for the 60-62 'X-Frame'.
Some previous owner solved this issue with cutting the bottom of the perch off.

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

It's like rivets, tin, and bondo are the next best thing to sliced bread.
Some previous owner riveted tin to the inside of the stepside fender.
Then some future owner (or maybe the same person) put another layer of tin over the previous layer.
There was actually three layers of riveted tin holding who knows how many years of dirt.
Argh!

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

P/O tried on like 3 or 4 sets of dorky Dumbo mirrors before he settled on something that looked like they came off a Peterbuilt, and left 7 million holes in the doors. Also, cut a huge gas filler hole for an auxillary fuel tank mounted in the bed.

Seems to be the common thing on this thread; HOLES.

HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LINED UP AND......OH sorry no violent actions here....

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

My truck was used to push other trucks around with no oil in the motor by a 19yr old. He was real energetic about it too. My '69 Camaro on the other hand had romex house wire under the hood which promptly melted when it touched the header. Started small fire, ruined battery, wire harness, and started a wild goose chase until I finally lost the car in a divorce.

When I was 11 I learned that electrical tape and gasoline don't mix. The sticky part turns to slime.

Wire nuts should be illegal to use on trucks. I hate when they ran out of electrical tape and used masking tape, which is now a white powder.

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

The wiring in my 66 is all messed up. The PO installed a cut off switch like you see on the rear of sub 9 second drag cars. See pic. Then he put in a toggle switch on the dash that turns on the ignition. See pic. So the starting procedure goes as follows- lift the hood turn the big switch, close hood get inside flip the small switch on the dash, turn key to start. Nice!
