I also found a guy putting a late taurus electric fan in his C20 so I may be trying that just because I can't find a shroud anywhere.

So I found a place that was in Sacramento that dismantles the 67-87 trucks, and bought the whole K member and suspension from an 3/4 ton 73 pickup all for 100 bucks.
It's pretty light weight for what I expected.


I'm starting to wonder how big of a sway bar I could find and rig up to work now.
What did the big C50 pickups or whatever come with in terms of a sway bar?
I'm not interested in buying any kit or new sway bar, anything I can rig up from the junkyard will work.

I am working on a rear 8 lug disc conversion myself using newer truck parts here is the thread still working on brake lines and such for it right now.

this one is using 2008 parts for the rear. do you have the eaton axle or the dana?

I have the eaton out back.
I found a place that sells the mounting brackets for 70 a pair, I think I'm going to use those because it can use front calipers off an 3/4 front or 76-78 eldorado rears with the mechanical parking brake which sounds very slick.

So the later frames aren't wider correct?
I remember trying to use the later style motor mounts to install the motor but they made it sit up really high and clearance in the trans tunnel became an issue.
So needless to say I went with factory mounts for that year but It makes me wonder what the difference was.

Yes the frames are the same width. The difference is in the height. That is whay you had issues with the '73-'87 motor mount brackets. Whay you need is the brackets from a '73-'87 C20. The frames on the '73-'87 C20 are shorter, closer in height to the '63-'66 truck frames. The frames on the '73-'87 C10's are taller. That is why the motor mount brackets from those are too tall and require a spacer on top of the frame. However, member protrash64 sucessfully used the C10 brackets on his big block install in his Burb.

For a sway bar, the C20 Camper Specials and the C30's used a 1.250" sway bar. That's the largest diameter bar that will bolt up to a pickup front suspension without modifications. Most of the C40 and bigger trucks have a straight axle with leaf springs.

Well the interesting part was that the truck I got the motor mounts from initially were from a 78 454 powered C20.
Oh okay, I kinda figured the C40's had a different front suspension.
I'll go looking for one of those. Thank you for the input.

Hmmmm, those should have fit fairly well. All the C20 brackets I have had in hand fit the '63-'66 frames nicely.

They fit, but they moved the motor upward in the front substantially, enough that it hit the trans tunnel.
Who knows, I got the right mounts now from a 66 truck so it's not an issue.

That makes me feel better about the frame width, now all I need is the right master cylinder and I'm set.
Know of any that bolt up?

Are you going with manual brakes or power? If manual, a '71-'77 or so pickup manual master will bolt to the firewall. But you may need to lengthen the pushrod. If you are wanting power brakes, there are not any factory or aftermarket boosters that will just bolt up without an adapter bracket

I'll probably buy one from an auto parts store just because that part is very important in the system

Anyone know if the guy with a 50 something chevy pickup is on here?
He has a twin turbo 455 olds tucked in the bed of it.
I had talked to him on real olds power.
Also anyone tried to take a big truck eaton drop out and stick it in the 3/4 or 1 ton housing?
