IFS without lowering?

Are there any IFSs or clips out there that won't lower the truck the typical 7 inches or so? The stance are looking for his a much more truck height stance, however we still want the ride quality of the IFS.

I'm in the middle of installing a TCI MII in my 56. Heres a pic of the truck before,

it's as low as I could go with stock axles front and rear, so it is lower than OEM.
Will be running the same wheels and tires, thanks to TCI six lug hubs.
I'm using stock MII spindles, not 2" drops, and am still anticpating an addition 3/4 to 1" drop at the front end from what you see here.
Still 2 or 3 weeks away from completion, will post pics when done.

Your other option would be to use a "universal" MII style kit and set the crossmember in so that the truck sits where you want it to. This time around though I think I would rathole the cash and give Scott a call and let him do the measuring and calculating.

Cutting down the later model crossmeber is going to take reworking the center steering link or figuring out what Rack and pinion will work with it although that might not be that hard. I've got a universal crossmeber for my 48 and figure that I will have at least ten or more hours into fitting it to the truck by the time I'm done.. It may go faster but right now I don't think so and if you go to set it different than the directions as far as height goes that adds more hours.

Honestly, the problem is that what Scott charges for a front end is about the plan for spending on the truck short term, which makes it unrealistic for the timeline and budget of the project. I don't like the idea of cutting the frame too much, which makes a clip less desirable, however from the budget perspective it makes sense. The 73-87 seems to make as much sense as anything as if later we decide to go on a "fancier" IFS it's just cut it out and we are only out a few hundred bucks.

If you are looking for cheap you might want to do a search for crown vic front suspension swap. I am in the process of doing it at the moment. But I am not sure if the ride height will be what you are looking for.

The Crown Vic front end is pretty wide and fender clearance with some tires has been an issue.

This guy who put one under an F100 in this thread that a lot of guys have followed. He says it will lower the Ford about 5 inches though but the Ford may have a step in the frame between the suspension and the cab that the Chevy doesn't have.

OldJimmy - Do you have any pics? From looking at it I wouldn't think it would lower it as much as a standard Mustang II or F-body clip setup.

Any idea how wide pretty wide is compared to the stock stuff on a TF?

I agree. You can pick these up fairly cheap and they're easy to install, line it up bolt it on and you're good to go. You can also pick up the rearend so your lugs match or have your rotors redrilled to match the rear.

I installed one on my AD and so far so good.

Thanks Robin, I was afraid that was the case. I am not really interested in having to cut the frame when doing the "budget" setup as I am not sure we will be happy with it in the long term. It's still old truck suspension. I realise now that I never mentioned that I have a 56 3100.

Justin, about the max I want to spent is about 1,200.

The ideal setup would be that "GM Metric" cross-member that was/is available for the ADs, that way I can use pieces that I already have, but that doesn't seem to exist.

Guess I am stuck in the classic pick 2: cheap, easy, reliable.

I did that with my original chassis but then I decided to go with the s10 chassis swap. If you go the C10 suspension route it will move your front track width out about 4 inches if I remember right. Do a search for a member by the name of Mobilortho. He has a really nice example of a truck done this way. He's a really nice guy and willing to give you some tech tips if needed. I've thought about sell the chassis with the c10 front suspension but haven't really pursued it yet.
